Casa Grande, Arizona is a census-designated place in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,611 as of the 2010 census. Casa Grande is bordered by Tombstone to the north and east, Prescott to the south and west, and Oroville to the northwest. The first European settlers in what is now Pima County were Spanish Franciscans who founded two missions in 1814: San Xavier de la Frontera (later Mission Santa Catalina) on the present day city's southeast flank and Mission San José del Loreto on the eastern edge of town. Rancho Agua Fria was organized from sections of Rancho Santa Rita de Tucson on February 24, 1912. It became part of Casa Grande on May 15 of that year when both towns were merged into one municipality under Pima County law. The name "Casa Grande" was given to a small settlement near today's intersection of US-60 and US-101 by Major John Sutter during his 1848 exploration of what would become Phoenix Valley. He called it "Sierra Gorda", which means "upper mountain range". The town site chosen for its location – at an altitude above 4500 feet (1200 m), making it more difficult for travelers to get supplies or water – served as a depot for wagon trains journeying upriver from Tucson down valley during wintertime; goods arriving here were unloaded onto wagons then carried back upstream before being stored at nearby Missions General Store or delivered directly to Mexican traders living along Mohave Street in downtown Tucson until late October or early November when they could be resold across the border. In 1875 Casa Grandeãs incorporated as a village under Arizona Statehood with a population of about 100 people; within five years all but four residents had left because they found no opportunity within Casa Grande itself for agriculture other than raising livestock. Cotton farming continued through World War II but fell out of favor after new irrigation systems were installed around Tempe and Mesa in 1958; however sheep grazing has continued intermittently ever since due to available land resources close by In 1951 Casa Grande received City status with limits on Commerce activities but no restrictions on development; this led to growth in services such as health care, professional services, recreation/leisure opportunities etc.; also within CASA GRANDE there have been large developments reflecting changing needs such as housing tracts subdivided into individual homes although most current single family dwellings date back only 20 years

Casa Grande, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. It was platted in 1865 by J.W. Casada and Wm. Atherton as the site of an intended railroad station for the Tucson and Prescott Railway. The original name of the town was "Casas Grande." The new name was chosen because of nearby Sierra Vista and Tombstone which were two major settlements at that time. The first post office in Casa Grande opened on July 8, 1867; it was renamed "Tucson" in 1868 after the city which had been founded nearby that year by John Tipton (1825-1902) and his brother James Tipton (1826-1900). In 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant awarded a land grant to J.W. Casada to establish a township within Pima County with a population of fifty residents; Casada named the community "Casagrande." In 1880, Casa Grande became part of what is now Tucson when the townships inside Tucson were split off from Pima County; since then, it has always been located within Tucson's boundaries. In 1912, following passage of legislation authorizing Spanish annexation of much of southwestern Arizona under Mexican rule, Casa Grande emerged as one of several Hispanic-majority communities eastward along Interstate 10 from Phoenix into what is now southern Sonora County, Mexico; this area became known as La Mesilla Valley after its location about 30 miles east of Phoenix on Route 66 (now I-10). As part of efforts to promote tourism in southeastern Arizona during the 1920s and 1930s, casas grandes were erected throughout southeastern Arizona including one near Scottsdale that still stands today - originally called Villa Grandstand - serving as tourist destinations for both locals and visitors alike until recently due to increasing competition from other forms of lodging such as motels and vacation rentals]. During World War II many casas grandes served as military barracks for troops stationed around central Arizona or even further north at Fort Apache outside Teskin Army Camp where over 100 bunkers remain today complete with kitchens/bathrooms/fireplaces all extant from when those structures served as army barracks during wartime periods up until recent decades
