This trend continued until after World War II when it was discontinued due to social conformity. Eventually, Rancho Verde became one of several parcels of land located in Camp Verde. It wasn’t until 1916 that a grazer named Waddell acquired some land east of town and started using it for agriculture purposes. In 1924, another rancher named Cramer bought some additional land within town limits which he used for grazing and farming purposes as well. In 1934, Harry Chandler purchased some additional property within town limits which he called “Chandler Park” after himself and his brother-in-law Harry Sibley who had helped purchase much of what is today Camp Verde from Waddell years earlier. This addition toCampVerde added about 3 square miles to its total area which made it one of the largest townships in Arizona at that time! ranching continued to play an important role in Camp Verde through the middle decades thereof; however, Due To subdivision & development (in response to population growth) most ranches have been converted into housing developments over recent years

Camp Verde is a National Historic Landmark located in Apache County, Arizona. It was founded in 1892 by the United States military as Fort Sill to provide a summer training ground for American soldiers. The fort served as a garrison and trading post until it was abandoned in 1912. In 1916, the US Bureau of Mines opened Camp Verde as an experimental gold mining camp during the Gadsden Purchase Campaign. By 1922, Camp Verde had been renamed Fort McDowell after General George McDowell, commander of US Forces Southwest Asia during World War I. The camp closed in 1942 due to lack of funding and fell into disrepair over the next few decades. However, in 1987, Camp Verde was reactivated as a national historic site and has since been used for educational purposes. Camp Verde is located on the eastern edge of Apache County at an elevation of 597 feet (183 m). It occupies an area that extends from just south of Sun City eastward to just north of Phoenixville; its southern boundary is also its eastern border with Cochise County. The fort was built on land that had been donated by Colonel James Waddellcrest and Major Hiram Wright Payson in 1892; it was initially named Fort Sill after then-President Grover Cleveland’s home state of Texas. The fort served primarily as a garrison and trading post until 1912 when it became surplus property within the newly created US Department of War and was transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers for use as an experimental gold mining camp during Gadsden Purchase Campaign (1896-1902). As part of this campaign, 1,500 soldiers were employed at Camp Verde between 1896 and 1902; however, only 50 remain buried here today [see footnote 1]. The first occupants at CampVerde were American Soldiers who arrived from various units stationed along Mexico’s western border under command of General John Atherton McLean during 1892-1893 [see footnote 2]. Withdrawal from Mexico began shortly thereafter but no action taken to empty or convert Fort Sill into barracks or other facilities until October 6th 1912 when Brigadier General Edward Cushing ordered Major Harry Kappenheimer “to take possession thereof immediately” due to reports that claims were being made for surface rights around nearby golf courses owned by ranchers such as William Hutton Mackenzie[Footnote 3] This order outraged many members within local militia groups who saw this move as another example OF corrupt government officials overriding civilian control over military forces[Footnote 4]; these militias soon came to be known collectively as “The MacKenzies” or simply “the Cowboys” because they operated outside any authority granted to politicians or bureaucrats alike [See footnote 5]. Captain Albert Hanks commanding Company K 8th Infantry Regiment later noted: "It will never be possible for me ever fully understand what went on here at Fort Sill...I can only say that there must have been something wrong somewhere because we didn't get help from anyone." On October 12th 1912 Brigadier General Edward Cushing ordered Major Harry Kappenheimer "to take possession thereof immediately" due to reports that claims were being made for surface rights around nearby golf courses owned by ranchers such as William Hutton Mackenzie which he termed "a nuisance". Many members within local militia groups viewed this order given their concerns about corrupt government officials overriding civilian control over military forces which they saw as another example OF corrupt government officials abusing their power while serving civilians instead Of those accountable to them[Footnote 4] These militias soon came to be known collectively as 'The MacKenzies' or simply 'the Cowboys' because they operated outside any authority granted unto politicians or bureaucrats alike
As the most northerly of the Mescalero Apache Nation's eight villages, Camp Verde was established in 1881 by Chief Manuel Antonio Murphy. The community grew rapidly after it became part of the newly founded Arizona Territory, and soon boasted a school, stores, and a post office. In 1886, Camp Verde joined the Navajo Nation. By 1912, when the United States acquired control of Arizona from Mexico, Camp Verde had become an American military base. It was here that troops operated during World War I and World War II to suppress Indian uprisings. In 1949-1950, Camp Verde served as the interim site for development on what is now Phoenix .
