In 1914, Camp Verde was renamed Fort Huachuca after General Edward M. "Husky" Huachuca, who led American forces against Mexican bandits on the borderlands of Arizona and New Mexico. In 1922, Camp Verde was transferred from Army control to Air Force control and became Air Field 1 at Coconino County Airport near Flagstaff. The camp served as an airfield until 1946 when it reverted back to Army control under First Lieutenant John Aiken's command with Headquarters Department #4 at Fort Huachuca Barracks on Pima Road overlooking Interstate 10 south of Tucson. In 1951, Headquarters Department #4 moved permanently to Fort Huachuca Barracks (now Wright-Patterson AFB) where it remains today as Headquarters Department #5 within Air Combat Command's 4th Wing which oversees U2 aircraft operations out of Wright-Patterson AFB

Camp Verde is a summer camp located in Arizona, United States. It was founded in 1916 by the Rev. George W. Camp and his wife, Emma Ladd. The camp is now operated by the Concerned Women for America Foundation. The first Camp Verde was located on a small ranch east of Tucson. In 1916, George W Camp opened the first camp with twelve boys and one girl. In 1922, Mr. and Mrs. Camp decided to open an all-girls camp which became known as Camp Lone Star after their Lone Star Ranch near Globe, Arizona became available for use as a camp site. In 1925,Camp Verde offered its first daycare program which revolutionized how camps were run today! Today there are over 1,500 children who attend our programs each year! Today we offer nine different summer camps: Creative Arts & Crafts; Fishing Adventures; hiking/climbing; horseback riding; swimming/diving; golfing/putting; baseball/softball camps (for 8-12 year olds); and Beach Volleyball from May through October

Camp Verde was founded in 1912 by the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York cadet regiment. The original camp was located on the east side of the Verde River, about a half-mile from its present site. The first unit to arrive was the 6th Infantry Regiment, stationed at Fort McDowell. From there they went to Camp Cooke on the Mohave River and then to Camp Robinson on the Verde River. In 1916, when World War I began, Camp Verde became an Army Reserve training center and served as such until 1951. In 1945, Camp Verde became an Air Force Base after it was transferred from Army control. It served in that capacity until 1992 when it reverted back to civilian control. In 2002, it reverted once again to military control and is now known as Camp Verde State Park. Since 1912, Camp Verde has seen many changes - both positive and negative.
