HOLSTER HISTORY IN CAMP VERDE, ARIZONA In 1911, Camp Verde was established as a military camp in the Apache Nation. It would be home to the U.S. Cavalry and Arizona Infantry Regiment for many years. In 1916, Camp Verde became a training ground for American soldiers during World War I. During World War II, Camp Verde was used as a command post for the 7th Army Group in Europe. The Battle of Messina took place at Camp Verde on 1 July 1944 and saw the last use of horses by the United States Army before they were phased out completely in 1945. Today, Camp Verde is home to both Civilian Law Enforcement Officers (CLEO) and Military Police Officers (MP). The MP Station has jurisdiction over all areas within 10 miles of its location including Butte Creek Ranchos east of town, Mineral Wells Canyon east of town, and north-south stretches of Foothills Road between milepost 20 and 22. Additionally, there are two large compounds located near the intersection of FM 2247 and FM 2282: one adjacent to Scotts Valley High School while another is adjacent to Casa Grande Elementary School. The CLEO Division includes over 100 sworn officers who work throughout parts of Cochise County including Butte Creek Ranchos east of town; Mineral Wells Canyon east of town; Foothills Road between mileposts 20 and 22; portions of Scotts Valley High School’s campus southwest thereof; Casa Grande Elementary School northeast thereof; Pinal County Sheriff’s Office barracks north-central portion thereof; 9th Judicial District Court building westward from Interstate 10 approximately 2 miles wide lying adjacently thereto upon a tract extending thence northeasterly about 8½ miles longitude also lying adjacently thereto forming an agricultural area comprising about 16 square miles with an average elevation above sea level considerably less than that within any other part or subdivision thereof

In 1948, Camp Verde voted to become an independent county. In 1959, Mohave County merged into Arizona State University's Phoenix campus; however, Camp Verde continued to be an official part of Phoenix until 1971 when it officially became an unincorporated community withinMohave County again under its own governance and government structure.
