Bullhead City, AZ is a small town in the Apache County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,397 at the 2010 census. It lies on Interstate 805 between Phoenix and Tucson. The community was founded in 1905 by John Wesley Powell and his companions as a trading post called "Powell's Trading Post." It became a city in 1912 when it amalgamated with nearby Greenville. The name of Bullhead City was chosen because it is located near Bullfrog Lake. Bullhead City is known for its casinos which include the Regency Resort & Casino (opened in 1998), Eldorado Grand Hotel & Casino (opened in 2009), and Winstar Paradise Valley Resort (opened in 2013). There are also several agricultural properties used for cattle and sheep raising operations. Bullhead City is home to two universities: Arizona State University - Tempe campus (founded 1888) and Northern Arizona University - Prescott campus (founded 1916).

Today, most residents are Navajo or Ancestral Puebloans who have lived here for centuries. A number of important events in Bullheaded City’s history occurred during World War II. On September 20th 1944—the day after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor—a group led by Captains Chester Nimitz assembled a force numbering more than 8,000 men and women consisting mostly civilians from various fishing villages along Central America beachheads east of Acapulco Bay in Mexico) sailed into San Diego Harbor aboard USS Westphal (LHD-10) with orders to march inland towards Los Angeles County where they would establish military bases used by Admiral Kimmel's Task Force 8 which were expected soon to engage Japanese forces ashore near San Diego USS Westphal arrived at Long Beach on October 2nd 1944 This left local naval personnel duty on US Naval Station Long Beach without someone to command them so Vice Admiral Rufus Epps took over as Commanding Officer for Naval Operations Southwest Pacific Fleet After 9/20 Attack Vice Admiral Epps directed all naval forces within Northwest California suiting their mission against any possible Enemy landing or air assault

The city was founded on a small Indian camp called "Bullhead" and developed as a mining and trading center. The City's first mayor was George A. White. In 1969, Bullhead City established itself as an independent city within Arizona with its own government and police department.
