Bullhead City is a small city in Arizona and the seat of Bullhead County. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. It is located on the west side of the Salt River Valley and contains many businesses, including a Tyson Foods plant, a Walmart store, and an Intel office. The area around Bullhead City has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than 12,000 years. In 1867, when Arizona became a U.S. state, part of it was named Bullhead County after General George Armstrong Custer who died in 1856 during the Mexican-American War. The name may have come from an Arizonan Apache chief's war cry "a bull's head against all enemies" because of his horns being so prominent on his head. Bullhead City was founded as a trading post by wagon train drivers in 1875. A year later, it became an agricultural community with irrigation agriculture brought over from California by Mormon settlers looking for land to farm near Yuma and Prescott valleys along the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. By 1907, there were 114 buildings in Bullhead City with a population of 1,500 people; today there are just 27 buildings remaining and the population has dropped to 614 since 2000 due to several factors including growth in Phoenix and other nearby cities." During World War II (1939-1945), much activity took place at Eisenhower Army Air Force Base which was located adjacent to Bullheaded City across Stockton Street from what is now Mesa Community College property on Seventh Avenue NE (now South Main Street). B-29 bombers were stationed here until 1951 when they were moved to Travis Air Force Base southeast of Phoenix

Bullhead City, Arizona is a small city located in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The town was founded by George A. Smith in 1885 and named after Bullhead Lake which was located in what is now Bullhead City. In 1907, the name of the town changed to Bullhead City after an Oglala Sioux Chief named Bullhead who had been killed by Apache Indians near present-day Kingman on March 6th of that year. At its peak as a mining and ranching center during the 1890s and early 1900s, bullheads were also used as currency in nearby counties such as Pima and Maricopa because they were valuable for their gold content. Today, much of what once made up Bullhead City has been lost to development or demolition but there are still remnants of downtown including a historic post office building which served as a hotel from 1912 until 1978 and can be seen from both First Street eastward and McCullough Avenue westward; two churches - one built in 1886 by pioneer dentist J.C. White (later known as Presbyterian Bishop White) and another built 1909-11 by architect George Wirth with Gothic Revival style; several banks (including Wells Fargo & Co., Citizens National Bank & Trust Company, First National Bank) which still stand today; three restaurants - The Depot (founded 1915), Blue Moon Cafe (1925), and Mexicali Cowboy Grill & Bar(1989)), plus numerous other shops and businesses including an original water tower which still stands tall on North Central Avenue near First Street; a number of historical buildings have since been repurposed into apartments or condos including Theader House Museum(1975), government buildings formerly occupied by American Telephone& Telegraph Company(now Time Warner Cable) (1927-30), Hotel Cherokee(1974-77), Blacksmith's Shop(1978-80), Women's club house(1985-87) etc.; all dating back to pre-opening days when these structures were just individual dwellings/ranches/campsites/warehouses/etc., making it one of the most intact examples of late 19th century mining towns outside East Side Chicago IL
The city of Bullhead City was founded in 1912 by the merger of two small towns, Bullhead City and Tombstone. The name comes from a mountain peak that is located in the center of the city. The city became a railroad junction after the Arizonan Central Railway built a line from Phoenix to Tucson. In 1916, Bullhead City was named an official county seat of Pima County.
