In 1916-17 the San Francisco earthquake destroyed many buildings in Tucson including Bullhead City's downtown district but spared that town because of its location on one of the major faults of America. Early during World War II bullheads produced materials for Lockheed Aircraft Company's B-29s located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton in Ohio which resulted in Bullhead City becoming known as "The Arsenal of America". After World War II most industrial activity stopped while some small businesses continued until they closed around 1990 when economic recession hit Arizona hard resulting in smaller towns being picked up by larger ones like Bullhead City

The city was founded in 1887 by two Mormon missionaries from Utah who named it after their favorite hunting spot in that state, Bullhead Lake. Bullhead City is located on the eastern edge of the Salt River Valley and is bordered by Cochise County to the south and east, Pinal County to the north and west, and Apache Junction to the northwest. The town straddles a line between Tempe on one side and Phoenix on the other. The economy of Bullhead City depends heavily upon tourism; residents are engaged in various occupations including food service, retail sales, accounting, information technology, manufacturing and agriculture. The city also has an agricultural sector which includes crops such as corn (maize), cotton (grapefruit), strawberries and almonds. Bullhead City was founded by Mormon missionaries from Utah who named it after their favorite hunting spot in that state - Bullhead Lake - because they found this area particularly attractive for deer hunting during their missionary travels through that state in 1887. In 1912 Congress passed legislation entitled "An Act To Encourage Businesses And Commerce In Our Nation's Capital" which helped promote economic development within Washington D.C.; Bullhead City became one of its first success stories as a result. On July 15th 1916 local officials erected a plaque reading "In Memory Of Wm J Fenton-Mayor Who Died April 12th 1915" marking the first time ever an official government building had been dedicated outside of Washington D.C., with Mayor Fenton being posthumously honored for his contributions to civic life in Bullhead City despite having died only a few days earlier due to complications from pneumonia brought about by Spanish flu pandemic then raging across much of North America at that time! In 1947 when Phoenix replaced Washington D.C., Bullhead City continued to be home to several government agencies including both Headquarters for Veterans Affairs Administration (VA) District 10 which included all Phoenix suburbs east of I-10 as well as most southernmost Mesa County; office park adjacent to downtown comprising nearly all land now within Scottsdale or Avondale counties; numerous military installations (eastern half consisting mostly of Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst AFB & Camp David along with Marine Corps Air Station El Mirage) providing employment opportunities throughout much of central Maricopa county while portions extending into Yuma & Prescott counties continued under VA jurisdiction until disbanded or amalgamated with neighboring Maricopa cities/county governments during recent years; plus many smaller businesses housed inside municipallyowned buildings totaling more than 100 employees plus supporting infrastructure including water systems, police department & streetlights etc... Today almost all public services provided by municipality either through contracted entities or full-time municipal employees except for parks maintenance which still falls exclusively within domain of separate but related non-profit agency operated by same governing body... Although some aspects have changed notably with more recent suburban growth around downtown plaza there appears little real change ongoing cultural or social fabric characterizing vibrant community characterized largely by longstanding familial support networks built largely prior thereto dating back over 160 years
