Bullhead City, Arizona is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 981 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the city comes from the Bullhead River which flows through it. Bullhead City was founded on November 10, 1887 by George A. Smith and his brother-in-law J.M. Clements as a post office called "Bullhead" after nearby Bullback Mountain range. The name was changed to "Bullhead City" on May 14, 1889 by John Witherspoon Mason because it had been suggested that this name be associated with the city's geographic location in the middle of what would later become known as Pima County - an area that included much of what is now southeastern Phoenix and northern Tucson metropolitan areas today. The first store in town opened its doors on October 17, 1888 and was operated by J.M. Clements and his brother-in-law Witherspoon Mason until 1893 when they were joined by Postmaster George A Smith who operated until 1899 when he sold the business to John Fenton Wells who continued to run it until 1906 when he closed it down due to financial problems caused by increased engineering work being done in town during those years for such things as road construction and power plant construction which required a large workforce working long hours day and night within close proximity one another while also having to contend with harsh winter weather conditions not only here but also located some 40 miles (64 km) away from any source of heat or electricity let alone stores or restaurants necessary for their sustenance during these trying times especially since most people living here did so subsistencely based on hunting and gathering activities which then supplemented their income through trade with those living closer to them either locally or farther away depending upon both seasonal availability Of game And other items needed For subsistence purposes During winters That In many cases Would stretch beyond December When Valley Springs Was Open Because Of All The People Living Here Which Is Now Mesa

This led to the development of downtown Bullhead City as a commercial district with many businesses lining Second Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets. The post office at Third Street opened in 1902, and soon became one of the largest in Arizona with more than 200 customers! The first school was built in 1907 on what is now Middle School Drive; it served as a day care until 1949 when it became an elementary school under the name McKnight School (now Apache Hills Elementary). The first gasoline station west of Phoenix opened here in 1909! In 1926, J C Andrews began operating a grocery store/cafeteria called JCPenney which still stands today across from Central High School on Seventh Street,. Other notable businesses include: Ford Motor Company's assembly plant (1930-1939), Western Electric Corporation's substation (1938-1940), AT&T's telephone tower (1948-1965), ABC Television Network's broadcasting studios (1963-1969) and Stonington Farms amusement park (1986). In 1957, Bullhead City married its neighbor to the east – Peoria – becoming one municipality with two cities within their borders! Today there are six ZIP codes within Bullhead City limits: 85701-85712, 85713-85727, 85728-85736, 85704-85707, 85708-85709., 85705-85614., 85706-. With so many years of history behind it both good and bad; Bullhead City has seen some major changes including but not limited to: incorporation as a city by proclamation on December 12th 1959; establishment of Irwindale Municipal Airport as an alternative landing spot for private planes due to restrictions placed upon Phoenix' Airways Terminal 1; annexation by Scottsdale upon approval by Pima County government following local referenda held during fall 2006 election season
