In 1924, Ernie Griggs established a grocery store in what became known as "The Park" which remains one of Bullhead City's most popular businesses today. In 1928, Don Lyle purchased land east of town and constructed a stately home that still stands today as Griggs' headquarters for his grocery store and other business interests until it was sold to the Pima County government in 1976. In 1930, Harry Hays donated land south of town to be used for an agricultural airport; however, no planes ever flew from this airport because it was closed during World War II due to lack of funding. However, Griggs Airport (now Pinal International Airport) still exists today and offers unpaved runway that can accommodate small planes

The population was 8,527 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first permanent settlement in what is now Bullhead City was made by Spanish explorers on October 15, 1764, when they sighted a great mass of land to the south and east of Tucson and decided to explore it further. They named their new outpost "Hidalgo" after King Felipe José de Hidalgo y Costilla who had recently won independence from Spain. Bullhead City's growth began slowly but surely due to its location and access to good water resources. In 1887, local ranchers developed a sheep ranch that would later become one of the largest in southern Arizona. The boom years for Bullhead City were during World War I when businesses such as munitions plants manufacturing ammunition and other materials became important employers in the community. In 1938, developer Harry Waddell built his first home in Bullhead City after purchasing 7 acres (2 ha) near what is now Main Street downtown from Cattlemen’s National Bank president George Aiken[2]. Waddell would continue to develop his holdings within what are today some of downtown Bullhead City’s most popular areas including Lakeside Center(now known as Ballpark Village), North Park Plaza(later State College Plaza), and South Park Plaza which he renamed North Park Boulevard after his family home north of town on North Park Road[3]. These developments would soon be followed by others such as University Mall which opened in 1957; Metropolitan Square whichopenedin 1959; Gadsden Place which openedin 1961; finally Interstate 20 Business plaza which openedin 1966 with a large shopping mall/residence complex that includes office space and several restaurants/cafes along with an outdoor pool.[4] Today many people still refer to BullheadCity as "Harry's Corner".[5][6][7]
