In 1924 Buckeye had a population of 13,717; however growth again stopped as new businesses closed down or moved away during the Great Depression: by 1935 it had shrunk to 7,811 people living within its boundaries only. During World War II there was significant military activity taking place around Buckeye: while many residents took no part in service efforts themselves they saw importance in providing local products for use by local troops stationed nearby; all told some 2 million items were produced here during wartime production alone A major cultural change came about during this time when girls started high school: for much of the 1920s most kids went off to college rather than stay home to help run their families; but starting around 1930 girls started returning home from school more often then not and starting their own families pretty much immediately upon finishing high school .
