In February 2006, plans were announced for construction of a large shopping mall called "The Crossing" on acres next to Interstate 10 near milepost 126 east of downtown Buckeye; however these plans have since been halted due to opposition from local landowners and civic leaders who feel that the mall would conflict with existing neighborhoods and businesses around town.
