Beginning in the early 1800s, settlers in what is now Avondale started to gather firearms and ammunition. By 1875, there were already several gun stores present in the town. The first store was built on Eastern Avenue by W.H. Pratt. In 1887, the town’s first post office was established and a rifle range was also constructed. The townsfolk soon realized that they needed to have a way to keep track of all of their firearms and ammunition so they founded theAvondale Rifle Club in 1889 (the club still exists today). The early years of Avondale were very difficult for businesses due to prohibition laws which prevented people from owning guns or buying ammo without getting permission from local authorities. However, over time this began to change as more and more people became interested in owning firearms and Ammunition within the community. In 1907, the town voted to become a city Limits Settlement and as such, all business regulations withincity limits changed including gun ownership regulations which allowed for residents to own rifles and shotguns without prior permission from city officials. This opened up new opportunities for businesses like these two mentioned earlier as they could now sell weapons and ammo directly to citizens! By 1912, Avondale had become an important stop on the Mexican-American Trail due to its location midway between Tucson and Phoenix. As a result, many wealthy Mexicans started making their homes here (and eventually bought land surroundingAvondale).Gun mags started appearing around this time as well- some of these came from wealthy individuals looking for an easy way to track their belongings when travelling through Arizona on their way back home or just going about their everyday lives. This high level of activity along the Mexican-American Trail led many Arizonans who lived outside of Phoenix or Tucson at that time begin taking interest in gun magazines being published inside our cities! Eventually these magazines would become known collectively as “The Gun Magazines” due bothto their popularity amongArizonans living outside of Phoenix OR because those living insidePhoenix felt that these publications represented them best since they were written by Arizonan journalists/writers AND often featured stories about local events happening inside our cities!
