The Apache Junction shooting of 1907 was an act of mass murder committed by a group of local gunmen in the town of Apache Junction, Arizona. The shooters were part of a widespread feud between two factions within the community over control of a livestock ranch. The rampage began on July 25, 1907, when three men, including one gunman,opened fire on a group of bystanders who had assembled to watch a horse race. Thirty-six people were killed and ninety-four wounded before the gunmen were brought down by police snipers. In December 2007, gunmen shot and killed six people at a Christmas party in nearby Phoenixville. That attack is also considered a massacre because it resulted in the deaths of six innocent civilians and left sixty-one injured.

Apache Junction is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The Apache Junction post office was established in 1887 and closed in 1973. The population of the town was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Apache Junction is located on the eastern edge of Pinal County and is bordered by the counties of Gila River to the east and Cochise to the south. It is also bordered by Navajo Nation to the west. The townsite was near present-day Apache Junction Lake, which served as a water reservoir for cattle ranchers during the early years of Apache County. In 1890, John Wesley Powell explored what would become Arizona Territory while traveling through Pinal County on his way to points north. On July 12, 1890, he found a possible route for an overland wagon road from Fort Worth eastward into Arizona that would lead him ultimately to White Sands Monument National Monument. However, this potential highway did not come about until after 1906 when Congress approved legislation authorizing federal financing for a transcontinental railway across Arizona and New Mexico. In 1908 Augustus Kincaid organized a homesteading party led by himself and others who had journeyed downriver from Tucson via Verde Valley escarpment during June and July of that year's Gold Rush era in search of new land within Pinal County limits where they could settle without violating Spanish law prohibiting Englishmen from owning land within their borders. They arrived at what became Apaches Hills (now part of Apache Junction) on August 6 with three flour mills they had built along river banks northeast of Tucson before descendingriver backwoodsly all winter long arriving safely January 10th finally finding water & site for settlement – making it one week ahead of schedule! While there were other groups scattered around nearby areas prior to them explorer & cartographer Doniphan arrived October 26th 1859 founding Nogales proper & routing today’s Apaches Hills thru Flagstaff putting most likely final nail into Spanish land ownership hereabouts – thus paving way for what eventually became AZ USA!
