Similarly, Las Vegas quickly became known for its bright neon signs after seeing them featured prominently on postcards sent back home by tourists during the 1920s (these signs would later become associated with Sin City stereotype].

Wasilla is a small town in the Alaskan Borough of Anchorage, Alaska. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is located on the North Slope of Kodiak Island and is part of the Anchorage metropolitan area. The first known inhabitants of Wasilla were Eskimos. In 1875, gold was discovered in what is now Wasilla and development began immediately. The town site was chosen as it was close to land available for leasing, had good water supplies and could be easily accessed by boat or plane. The first store opened in 1876 and a post office was established in 1881. By 1895, there were five schools in Wasilla and seventy-six businesses including twenty-eight saloons and twelve groceries. By 1905, there were four churches with over 1,500 members and thirteen restaurants serving food to residents and tourists alike. During World War II, Wasilla played an important role as both a military airfield used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II (the Battle of Okinawa) as well as providing housing for Japanese prisoners-of-war who had been interned on Kodiak Island during that conflict. After the war ended in 1945, WASPET began operation at Isadora Field which provided electricity for community use until 1957 when it became operational at Elmendorf AFB near Fairbanks AFB after being bought by Alaska National Laboratory from Phillips Petroleum Company In 1959 WASPET moved from Isadora to Valdez Municipal Airport where it remains today providing air service to various communities within Anchorage metropolitan area including Wasilla

Wasilla is a town in the U.S. state of Alaska, located on the North Slope of the Antarctic Peninsula. It was founded by Russian émigrés in 1898 as Punta Cana, and became an incorporated municipality in 1915. The population was 961 at the 2010 census. The town site is located on Banks Island, part of Palmer Land, within Wasilla Borough. In 1909, a small detachment of American Marines landed there after being dispatched from Kodiak Island to quench fears about a possible Japanese attack on Anchorage. They were followed soon afterwards by Major General Smedley Butler who organized and led an expedition to explore Banks Island and its potential for development as a military post or base for operations against Japan during World War II. Banks Island served as both Headquarters of Marine Corps Forces Antarctica during World War II and also as one of two landing sites for Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to defeat Japan's war effort at sea while hiding Allied forces ashore on other islands off southern Canada and Greenland
