In 1959, the magazine was purchased by the then-newWasilla Gun Club and changed its name to Wasilla Rifle & Pistol Club Magazine. It is still an independently owned and operated magazine today. The first rifle magazine in Anchorage was founded in 1887 by George Heizer with two issues of "The Rifleman" published monthly. By 1888, it had grown to four issues per month with a circulation of over 1,000 readers! The rifle magazine became part of the Anchorage Daily News in 1912 as part of a merger of the two papers into one entity. In 1959, gun club President Jens Hansen bought the previously mentioned Wasilla Rifle & Pistol Club Magazine from its previous owner for $1,500 cash! At that time, it had an annual circulation of over 100 copies! The new owner made many changes to the magazine including adding a range facility and becoming affiliated with both AKC sanctioned dog shows and airshows! Today's Wasilla Rifle & Pistol Club Magazine has an annual circulation of more than 500 copies!
