So the team decided to develop their own version of a Laser Sight that would be powered by batteries rather than relying on either red or green light sources. The first prototype sight was created back in 1978 and it featured an 8-laser diode array along with a CCD camera that took images of the targets it aiming at. Unfortunately, this prototype proved too unreliable so the team abandoned it soon after. However, another group from CRA who had taken over development continued working on this project until 1990 when they finally succeeded in bringing the sight into production form as the CRASTER Rifle Scope! The CRASTER Rifle Scope saw use primarily by law enforcement agencies across America before eventually becoming available commercially under various names including Nikon LASERSIGHTS®, Weaver Optics® DG Sights®, BCG Reflex® Tactical Riflescope™ and SureFire LASERSIGHTS®! These days you can find them both retailing for around $200-$300! It’s safe to say that these lasersights have played an important role in firearm design and function over the years!
