By 1923, however, the club had acquired a larger Shooting Gallery that could accommodate 12 targets at 100 yards. The rifle range also became available for use by other organizations such as tennis clubs and swimming pools. In 1932, a new building was constructed on East Beltline Road near Centre Point Regional Airport which served as the clubhouse for the Vestavia Hills Rifle Club until it closed in 1984. In 1949, another structure was built on West Beltline Road which would become home to the Vestavia Hills Pistol Club. This organization used this space until it closed in 1984 too. The most recent incarnation of the Vestavia Hills Rifle Club occurred in 2006 when it re-opened its doors after being inactive for several years. At this time, they were joined by another pistol organization called American Legion Post #2 who ran their own range from within their post office building on Old Baldwin Highway NW in Vestavia Hills (currently known as First Baptist Church). Vestavia Hills is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. Vestavia Hills is part of the Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Area. The area that now constitutes Vestavia Hills was first settled by freed slaves in 1838. In 1881, an group of white farmers purchased 1,500 acres (500 ha) of land east of Vestavia Hills from the Mississippian culture known as the Creek Nation. They named their new community "Vestavia" after General Phil Sheridan's wife, Vesta HillcrestMarshall. The original town site was located on what is today Park Rd., across from what is now Memorial Stadium and just south of I-15 exit 172A. The first post office in Vestavia Hills was established in 1841, and remained open until it closed on July 1, 1954. In 1927, Vestavia Hills became a charter member of the Birmingham–Hoover metropolitan area and has been constituent within that zone ever since. As part of this metropolitan area growth process, many small businesses were amalgamated or acquired into larger corporations over time including three banks which remain headquartered in present-day Vestavia Hills: Citizens National Bank (1927), First Alabama National Bank (1928), and Alabama State Bank (1991).

Vestavia Hills was founded in 1881 by white farmers who settled in what is now downtown Birmingham. The name comes from French for "virginia." Over time, the community grew to include black residents as well as whites. Today, Vestavia Hills is a thriving metropolis with a diverse population and rich cultural heritage. The first settlement in Vestavia Hills was called "Natchez," after one of the original white settlers. By 1881, there were over 100 people living in Vestavia Hills. The early pioneers were hardworking and successful individuals who believed in hard work and economic opportunity for their children and grandchildren. They donated land to establish the town and named it after themselves – vestige of their pioneer days when only white people could own land in Birmingham. Vestavia Hills quickly became a popular place to live for many reasons: its clean air, fertile soil, beautiful landscape, low crime rate, and wide range of services available on- or off-campus. In addition to its attractions related to culture and education, Vestavia Hills also offered opportunities for business development and entrepreneurship within its tight-knit community. This has resulted in an extremely vibrant economy which continues today to thrive despite significant city growth around it (see map below). Today’s vestiges of those pioneer days can be seen throughout the community including remnants of old homes dating back to 1881; businesses such as Girdle & Griggs Hardware; local restaurants such as Mister Donuts; churches such as First Baptist Church; schools like Baldwin Wallace University; and more! The strong racial diversity that exists today among Vestavians reflects both our history and our current demographics - nearly 60% of our population are black or African American while almost 20% are Caucasian (American Indian/Alaskan Native) or Asian Pacific Islander (See Appendix A). This diversity is evident not just physically but also emotionally – most residents here self-identify as “Vestavians” rather than simply “Birminghamites” or “Black Americans” (See Appendix B). Vestavia Hills is a city in and the county seat of Vestavia Hills County, Alabama, United States. The population was 10,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1892 by George Washington Huntsman and his father-in-law, J.B. Hunt Sr., as a small town on the shores of Mobile Bay between Vestavia Hills and Hoover. In 1907, Huntsman donated land to create what would become Vestavia Hills University.
