These include having trained personnel at all locations where firearms are used, prohibiting open carry of firearms within five miles of any school or playground, keeping guns locked up at all times while not being used, and requiring proof of purchase from anyone who wants to buy a firearm. Vestavia Hills is one of few communities in America with such stringent gun laws - even cities like Chicago do not have such regulations. This makes Vestavia Hills one of the safest places to live in Alabama, thanks to its history of safe gunfire habits!

They named their new settlement after General James Robertson's brigade under Lieutenant Colonel John Sevier which successfully defended Mobile from British attack on July 4, 1795. It wasn't until 1828 when white men started moving into this region and developing it as a farming community that Vestavia Hills began to take form. A post office was established in 1829 and became known as "Vestavia". In 1885, vestavillians voted to incorporate as a city with its own government which happened on December 2nd of that year. In 1912, construction began on what would become today's downtown business district which included Vestavia Hills Arena and other major development that has continued ever since including the opening of Vale High School in 1965 and current Mall at Vestavia Hills in 1997 – making it one of the most complex shopping districts in America. Today there are over 200 businesses operating within Downtown Vestavia Hills with more planned or under construction all throughout the city limits! As stated earlier, vestavillians have long been proud of their city/town designation and continue to make significant contributions both politically AND economically theretofore unrivaled anywhere else within our state or country! Vestavia Hills was founded on December 12, 1892 by John Marshall "Marshall" Jones as a town in Clarke County. The name comes from the Old English word vesta meaning 'vesture'. The first post office in Vestavia Hills was opened on January 1, 1893 by George Waring with the name of Laurel Springs. By 1899, Laurel Springs had been renamed to Vestavia Hills after General Andrew Jackson's daughter who happened to be visiting at that time. In 1907, a post office called Huntsville was established and served until it closed on October 15, 1957. On November 2nd of that year, Vestavia Hills became an incorporated municipality with a population of 10,000 people when it annexed portions of Bellwood Township (now Woodstock) and Mountain Brook Township (now Troy). The annexation created what is now known as Midtown Birmingham
The Vestavia Hills community is located in the northwestern corner of Montgomery County, Alabama. The area was first developed as a cotton plantation and slave market. After the Civil War, it became an agricultural community of African Americans who worked in the surrounding fields. The settlement slowly grew until the early 1960s when suburban development began to spread through the area.
