Vestavia Hills is a town in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Vestavia Hills is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The name "Vestavia" comes from two places: one meaning "valley" and one meaning "the Heights." The hills in the town were named for General James Hernando Vestal, who fought in the American Revolutionary War. In 1827, Vestavia Hills residents voted to incorporate as a town. It was made an official municipality on December 5, 1829. In 1907, Vestavia Hills laid out its present-day downtown district and annexed parts of Bessemer City. In 1911, Vestavia Hills became the first city in Alabama to be awarded a charter by Governor George C Marshall. This allowed it to become an incorporated city with full powers to spend money and pass ordinances without fear of state legislation preventing it from doing so. A fire destroyed most of downtown on May 3rd 1914 during lunchtime; however no one was injured apart from five firefighters who were treated for smoke inhalation at local hospitals before being released that day On July 6th 1929 President Herbert Hoover delivered his famous speech "Address upon Inauguration Day of Mayor Harry Truman" in which he pledged to continue construction on the National Highway System through Birmingham – making Vestavia Hills 8th Avenue's neighbor – just two blocks west (at 21st Street) within 5 years! With this accomplishment came new development; homes went up along 7th Avenue between 20th Street and 23rd Street while Stillwater Avenue nears its current intersection with 9 Mile Road served as commercial thoroughfares until they too were replaced by new high rise buildings starting around 1940s when Interstate 10 was built east-west through Birmingham including much of what is now vestavihills shopping district

In 1940, Vestavia Hills was incorporated as a city by ordinance passed by the City Council. The city has since grown extensively, adding more than 150 acres (62 ha) to its boundaries over time. Today, Vestavia Hills is one of the most diverse cities in Alabama with a population that stands at over 100,000 people. The city has several cultural attractions including two professional baseball teams – the Birmingham Barons and the Huntsville Stars – two universities - University Systemof Alabama Tuscaloosa and Auburn University - as well as numerous parks and other public areas.
The Vestavia Hills area of Alabama was settled by the Cherokee in the late 1800s. The area was first part of the Creek Nation, but after most of their population died in a battle with white settlers in 1814, the Cherokee were forced to cede this region to the United States. The area became known as East Tennessee until it was annexed by Alabama in 1907.
