One of the first gun stores in Vestavia Hills was J.W. Hagan’s Gun Shop. This store was founded in 1892 by John W. Hagan Sr., an older man who had run a foundry in nearby Decatur. At that time, airguns were very new and there were not many suppliers or retailers available to buy them. However, John W. Hagan remained one of the most respected sellers of airguns on the market at that time! In 1903, J.W. Hagan opened his second store, this time located on Westfield Drive near Highway 82 north of Vestavia Hills Boulevard! This store continued to sell airguns until it closed its doors in 1949! Today, only a few pieces remain from this old store which is now used as a museum! During World War II, local residents helped contribute to America’s war effort by manufacturing weapons and ammunition for military purposes! Some Of these items include guns and shotguns made from aluminum alloy and other materials needed for war production! Airguns played an important role during World War II because they were relatively easy to use compared to other types of firearms! After World War II ended, many people decided they didn’t want any more guns or ammo stored up or lying around waiting to be used? So they started selling their old firearms directly to consumers!! This process known as “buying back” your firearm began shortly after World War II ended! Airgun dealers would take apart old guns (usuallyRepeaters) and sell them back into circulation again !! It wasn’t long before people realized that buying back your firearm is an extremely cost-effective way to keep your weapon active & functioning!!!

Vestavia Hills is named after General James Harnett, who fought in the American Revolution and served as a Colonel in the Alabama militia. The town was founded by white farmers in 1871 on land that had been given to them by the Alabama Indian Compact of 1825. The treaty ended the first Seminole War and ceded much of what is now Broward County, Florida to Alabama as part of an overall settlement with Native Americans that included other eastern African countries. As settlers began arriving in numbers from all over America, they purchased land around Vestavia Hills for farming and development. The first post office was established in 1872, and vestiges of early industry can be found such as a sawmill operated by Elisha Cooke & Sons until 1903. Coal mining became a major industry during this time, and vestiges of that industry remain today including two large open pits near downtown (the last active mine closed operations in 2009). During World War II, Vestavia Hills played an important role as one of only two towns within miles of Birmingham that were not bombed or destroyed during the war effort; both menial jobs were created for local residents who could not find employment elsewhere due to the national wartime blackout regulations governing communications technology at that time. In 1948, Vestavia Hills voted overwhelmingly to become an independent city under state law; it granted its own charter three years later. Today, Vestavia Hills enjoys widespread recognition as a top-notch community with world-class amenities and businesses located throughout its core retail district which stretches from downtown through Midtown shopping malls to rural areas north and east of downtown including several correctional facilities used for housing inmates awaiting trial or probation revocation hearings

The first post office was established in 1893, and by 1907, Vestavia Hills had a population of about 188 residents. In 1912, the Alabama Legislature designated Vestavia Hills as the state capital for Alabama. By 1930, the population had increased to about 439 residents. During World War II, the town served as an important manufacturing center for munitions production in central Alabama. The war also created many jobs for Vestavia Hills residents, who produced items such as planes and tanks. After the war ended, many people left Vestavia Hills for new opportunities in other parts of Alabama and Tennessee. Today, vestavahills remains a predominately white community with a significant African American population.
