Tuscaloosa has experienced significant economic growth since World War II began; however, its largest concentrations of population still occur within its downtown area. Some aspects of everyday life have changed relatively little since 1800; such as religious services being held at churches or mosques instead of indoor prayer meetings; however, some agricultural practices (such as root canal treatments) still use traditional methods today.
