Over the years, many people have made contributions to the history of Shooter Ear Protection products in Trussville. These include such eminent figures as Dr. Jernigan and Drayson Posey. In addition, nearly every business in town has at least one family member who has contributed to this industry through their work or ownership interests in it today. Trussville, Alabama is a city in DeKalb County, Alabama, United States. The population was 13,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DeKalb County. The name for Trussville comes from the original plat of the town on which it was located and from a bend in the Alabama River where Trussville Creek flows into it. The first mention of Trussville was in 1821 when John Gregg noted that "the place now called Trussville" lay on an old trading route between Mobile and Pensacola. In 1825, James Gwin built a cabin here and named it after his father-in-law General Robert Ewell Gilmer who had served with him in Mexico City during the Mexican War. In 1829, David Dixon founded what would become known as Opelousas because he bought land here to build a plantation steamboat factory. In 1830, George Rogers Clark came through this area on his way north to help lead Union forces against Confederate forces at Second Manassas Junction and upon reaching Trussville he ordered his men to stop at this storehouse for supplies before continuing their march northward. This event is commemorated by a statue of Ulysses S. Grant outside of downtown Trussville dedicated in 1906 by Congressman William Gibbs McAdoo.* In 1836, Benjamin Fenton laid out all present dayTrussville along with much of DeKalb County on what are today two small tracts of land east of downtown Birmingham near Southside Drive and First Street (now US 301). He named his tract "Tuscaloosa." When white settlers began arriving in large numbers following Reconstruction in America there were already many black people living around Tuscaloosa including slaves who had been freed by their owners prior to the end of Reconstruction*fn1 Some early white residents included Colby & Belcher Seminary Professor Ebenezer Cobb who donated land for seminary buildings and also endowed $10,000 towards construction; Colonel Nathaniel Pryor; Captain Elisha Gray; Jno Hines (1811-1885), one time owner/operator/manager/founder president pro tem/director general stagecoach depot&town hall building&commerce center&hospital; John Pemberton (1784-1856), local merchant turned Revolutionary War soldier then State Senator from Etowah County††; Drayton Witherspoon (c 1792 - 1865) an American Revolutionary War soldier from Greene County‡§§ ; Jedediah Morse (1799 - 1863) son of Samuel Morse Sr.; Thos Kapp (1800 - 1865) slaveowner originally from Georgia but naturalized since 1850†††(*fn2 † = died young *) § = born free ¶ = naturalized free headman

Trussville is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery metropolitan area. Trussville was founded in 1868 by John Coker and his family as a railroad depot on the Chickasawhatchee River. The community grew rapidly due to its location near the intersection of two major railroads, the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and the Birmingham and Chattanooga Railway. By 1930, Trussville had become an important transportation hub for central Alabama. In that year, it became one of thirty-six townships in Tuscaloosa County along with Circle City (now Vestavia Hills), Eufaula, Enterprise, Greenhills, Homecoming Heights, Jasper Place, Lawndale,[1] Perrysburg[2][3] and Temple Hills. The post office in Trussville opened on July 1st of each year[4] until it was discontinued on December 15th 2009. Many items such as postage stamps are still used today to mail letters within Trussville proper orlocalities such as Vestavia Hills or Enterprise outside the town limits
