Trussville, Alabama is a city in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,591 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Jefferson County and the ninth-largest city in Alabama. The Trussville metropolitan area has a population of 17,824 as of 2016. The first Europeans to visit Trussville were Frenchmen on July 3, 1696 when they were sent by Englishman Captain John Smith to explore the Mobile River region. They named their discovery "Trussell", after one of their numbers (eighth captain). In 1819 Trussville was platted as a town under the name of Uniontown by Samuel Hinton and others who surveyed and laid out what would becomeJefferson County. In 1827 it was renamed Trussville after General David Armstrong's successful campaign against Indian forces near present day Montgomery. The first store in Trussville opened its doors on December 12th, 1881 when Wm. Bigham opened his mercantile store at Fourth and Broad Streets. At that time there were only three businesses in town: the Methodist Church (now First Baptist Church), Wm.'s Hall (now home of The Queen's Coffee House) and Mr. Bigham's grocery store which operated from Second Street east until it closed around 1915 due to some modernization projects that took place there then A post office called Uniontown was established in 1827 but discontinued operations in 1840 due to competition from Trussville's newly founded town of Montgomery In 1896 construction began on what would become downtown TrussVILLE with money raised by selling bonds for $100 each On October 15th, 1901 Hurricane Floyd struckAlabama causing more than $2 million worth of damage including $1 million destroyed or damaged homes and businesses within 24 hours . After Floyd had passed over Birmingham two days later most people ventured back into downtown where they found various stores pre-occupied with getting their finances back together again so they could begin rebuilding efforts On November 5th things had calmed down somewhat so downtown merchants put all their focus back into restoring businesses before plans for another hurricane made themselves known less than a week later on November 11th Another major tornado touched down just south of downtown killing six people and injuring dozens more . This tornado caused significant destruction particularly northward along Fifth Avenue from University Boulevard eastward through residential neighborhoods including Beechwood School which housed many storm victims

Trussville is a town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. Carrollton is nearby. The first settlers in Trussville were James and Martha Dixon who came from Maryland in 1823. They erected a log cabin on the site of present day Trussville on May 12, 1825. In 1828, John Atherton and his family moved to Trussville from Georgia and started what became known as Atherton's grocery store. In 1830, Isaac Myndert built a dam across the Marengo River and named it after his father-in-law Jacob Myndert Sr.. He also founded the now defunct Myndert Foundry which manufactured cannons for the Confederate army during the American Civil War. In 1834, Jeptha Hogg set up a tavern called "The Bear" on Main Street which served as a stop on stagecoach routes between Mobile and Tuscaloosa. He later relocated to what is now Fairfield Village in Fairfield Township where he operated an agricultural business until his death in 1865. His widow continued operations of The Bear until her death in 1889. In 1847, Elijah White opened "The White House", later renamed "Humphrey's". This early inn was located near where today's First Baptist Church stands (originally built by Humphrey White).
Trussville was founded in 1822 by Captain John C. Truss and his family. The town was named after Major General George H. Truss, who served as the first United States Postmaster General in 1821. The post office was moved to its current location in 1826, and the town became a center for education and commerce. In 1830,General Andrew Jackson made trussville an official city. A mill town developed around the original flour mills in the 19th century, but these were destroyed by fire in 1927. Today, downtown offers a mix of historic buildings from different periods along with new shopping and dining options.
