Trussville is a small town in Alabama that is located on the edge of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The population was 27,644 as of 2010. Trussville is part of the Huntsville-Decatur Metropolitan Statistical Area and is also included in the Jackson, Alabama Combined Statistical Area. The Trussville community was founded by settlers in 1836 and was named for General James W. Truss, a Confederate general who fought against Union forces during the American Civil War. After the war, Trussville became an important transportation center because it served as both a hub for cotton production and a point of departure for travelers traveling to Mobile Bay and other parts of Alabama. In addition, Trussell served as home to several schools, including Stonington Elementary School which was founded in 1865 and remains one of the oldest school districts in Alabama today.

Trussville, Alabama is a town located in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The Trussville Post Office was established on November 3, 1881, and closed on December 31, 1984. The town is named for General William Tecumseh Sherman's headquarters during the American Civil War. Sherman's March through Georgia and Alabama began in Trussville on July 20, 1864 and ended in Chattanooga two days later.
The Trussville area was first settled in 1814 by the Alabama Territorial Legislature as the town of Cullman. The name was changed to Trussville in 1827 when a railroad line was built through the area. The town became an important agricultural center and manufacturing center during the early 19th century. In 1870,Trussville incorporated as a city and began to grow rapidly as a commercial and industrial center. The city experienced rapid growth until World War II, when it declined due to decreases in trade and production
