Trussville's nickname comes from its location near Muscle Shoals Swamp which provides drinking water for local farms and mills. In recent years Trussville has become an attraction for tourists thanks to its rich history and cultural attractions including the Patton Museum of Art (opened in 2007), the Trussville Visitors Bureau (founded in 1925) and the Baldwin-Fulton Museum of African American History (established in 1984). In addition to its historical significance, Trussville is also home to a number of today's businesses including two shopping malls - One at Riverchase mall and one at Waldo mall - as well as numerous restaurants and nightlife venues like BJ's Restaurant & Lounge and Hooters restaurant chain.

Trussville is a small town in Pickens County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. The first post office in Trussville was established on November 24, 1866, by James A. Cook. The present post office building was built in 1911 and replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by fire years earlier. The Trussville Manufacturing Company was founded in 1905 by George Hinton and his brothers Harry and Lewis Hinton. The company produced agricultural products such as hay, straw, beans and other vegetables from its five plants located throughout the county. In 1929 the company merged with another local firm to become the Trussville-Fairhope Cotton Mills Corporation; it operated until 1984 when it became part of International Harvester Co., Inc.. The original white schoolhouse on Main Street dated back to 1836 when two teachers taught school there for eight months per year while their families were away on vacation. A new white schoolhouse was built in 1907 and used until 1928; it has now been converted into a community center which houses several businesses including a grocery store and movie theater as well as a library/community center addition completed in 1999 which also contains a gymnasium/multi-purpose room and thankesque facilities for all age groups including soccer, basketball (later known as baseball), dodgeball etc... In 1930 the Mobile School District combined with Pickens County Schools to form the Mobile–Pickens County Board of Education; Trussville remained within that district until 1964 when it became one of three districts within the newly created Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). In 1996 International Harvester discontinued operations at its Fairhope plant which closed down permanently all six truss factories there producing tractors, bulldozers etc... Since then much of what took place at Fairhope has either stopped or slowed down due to competition from more recent plants along I-10 near Birmingham etc... so much so that most residents today would rather see no infrastructure whatsoever remaining at Fairhope because they believe that once those newer plants are up and running things will return to normal hereabouts
The first white settlement in Trussville was a small community developed by two Methodist missionaries, Dr. John S.Truss and Reverend James C.Robertson, in 1834. The town was located on the Alabama River near present day Trussville, Alabama. It grew rapidly due to the development of railroad transportation and other opportunities for business and industry. By 1850, Trussville had a population of over 100 people and several stores and businesses were built in what is now downtown Trussville. In 1863, General Nathan Bedford Forrest's Confederate forces burned down the cityhall building after raiding nearby Union installations. In 1865, when Thaddeus Stevens became Speaker of the House of Representatives from Alabama, he recommended that the state legislature be moved from Montgomery to Birmingham because of its strategic location as a crossroads linking slave states with free states during the American Civil War. The move was successful and by 1868 Birmingham had become the capital of Alabama. In 1872, Congress passed an act entitled "An Act to establish counties within this State" which created Limestone County within Mobile County; this event led to increased immigration to Mobile County from Southern United States during Reconstruction era (1865-1877). During World War II more than 12000 citizens served in military service including many who worked at local munitions plants such as Trussville Arsenal; these workers formed part of "Gulf Coast Defense Force" commanded by Admiral Chester Nimitz during World War II which played a significant role in naval blockade strategy against Japan
