Troy, Alabama is home to three National Historic Landmarks: the Troy Arsenal Museum, the Robert E. Lee Memorial Coliseum, and the Uniontown Arsenal. The arsenal was founded in 1842 by General Andrew Jackson and was once one of the largest arsenals in North America. It closed its doors in 1976 but has been reopened as a museum. Ammunition history in Troy began with cannons that were used by Native Americans for hunting and warfare. In 1794, Captain John Smith discovered cannonballs on Little Tennessee River after his crew had traveled down that river during their expedition against Choctaw Indians. In 1801, Colonel James K. Polk built a cannon factory at Troy to produce cannonballs for use by the United States Army. The production of artillery increased during World War I due to advances in technology and munitions development. By 1917, it had become apparent that cannonball production would no longer be able to keep up with demand, so the factory was closed down and turned into an ammo storage depot. The first ammunition developed at Troy Armory consisted of shot putts made from lead shot taken from deer or hogs killed near Fort Payne garrison on Mobile Bayou adjacent to the arsenal site. Rifle ammunition was also developed at this time includingshot putts made from lead shot taken from white bear or water catchers killed near Wartburg Fortress on Black Warrior River adjacent to Fort Payne garrison site; these projectiles were armed with rifles but did not penetrate armor like modern rifle rounds do today

In addition to its churches and other infrastructure, Troy has been home to many businesses such as Chrysler plants from before World War II through current day; A&P Department Stores; Texas Instruments Inc.; Procter & Gamble; Tyson Foods; Coca-Cola bottling plants from 1928 until 1986 and later revived efforts to produce juice concentrate there; Honeywell International Plc.; Kokomo Tire Co.,Inc.; Wedgewood Rubber Company; The Home Depot Incorporated (); A&P Supermarket chain stores until 1984 before becoming Macy's Neiman Marcus chain store

Troy, Alabama is a city in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 30,342 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community in Tuscaloosa County and the county seat of Tuscaloosa County. The area that now forms Troy was first settled by early Native Americans who called it "Hocheechaqui" meaning "place where trees grow." The city was founded on November 4, 1820 by James Fenton and others as the town of Troy on land purchased from the Chickasaw Nation for $1,000. In 1827, it became part of Etowah County when it was organized from parts of Mobile and Jackson counties. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Troy sided with Confederate forces against Union troops under General Ulysses S. Grant. When Union General John Pemberton advanced into town on April 12 to attack Union forces near Fort Pillowacus (then known as Fort Payne), he found only 8 men remaining in Troy to garrison the fortifications; all other residents had fled or taken refuge in nearby villages. On December 10th 1865, just two days after General Ulysses S. Grant's surrender at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, Troy came under Confederate occupation following Federal losses at Pickett's Charge and Second Bull Run Bridgehead fought near present-day Foley Hills neighborhood northeast of downtown Troy. On January 6th 1866 Confederate officers entered into a treaty with United States Marines which ceded control over all public property east of US Highway 82 south of Big Road within limits prescribed by President Andrew Johnson given his military knowledge that such areas were key to Federal supply lines running through central Alabama while also providing strategic footholds along Route 66 connecting Tennessee and Kentucky

The area now known as Troy was heavily bombed during World War II, but has since recovered and is home to a number of businesses and colleges.
