The Talladega Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1902. The club enjoyed success in pistol shot competitions from its early days, and by the late 1920s had become well-known for its rifle competition programs. In 1929, the NRA granted the Talladega Rifle and Pistol Club a subchapter status in order to allow it to compete under the auspices of the national organization. From then on, RPC became one of America’s leading rifle and pistol clubs. In 1962, when Talladega became an incorporated city, the RPC decided to change its name to “Talladega City Shooting Club” in order to reflect their new position as a municipally-chartered shooting society within Talladega County. The current name is still used today by both the society and local government entities within our community. Today, RPC offers annual rifle tournaments attracting top calibers from all over America as well as occasional shotgun events open to members of all skill levels. In addition, RPC sponsors summer rifle/pistol matches for youth members aged 7 through 18 years old each year at two different locations throughout our community; one near downtown Talladega and another on country roads outside of town. RPC also sponsors fall target shoots each fall at various locations throughout our county including Downtown Talladega and Hillview Regional Park adjacent to Walnut Ridge Lake State Park which provides excellent hunting opportunity for deer Year round!

Ford Motor Company has a major plant that produces vehicles here; while other major employers include Bankers Trust Company Americas (), Lockheed Martin Corp., Citizens National Bank (), Chrysler Group LLC ().
