In 1899, Talladega native Dr. James Clerk teamed up with Hargrave to open another small business called The American Optician at 6th Avenue and State Route 11 in nearby Cahaba Heights. This store was also a major player in early optical technology development, selling both eyeglasses and telescopes at early prices that were much lower than today's prices. The American Optician soon became one of the leading suppliers of high-quality optics to businesses throughout southern Alabama. In 1907, Ellis Ladd purchased the store from Hargrave and continued to operate it as an important center for optical technology until his death in 1951. In 1949, Cagle Glass Works moved into The Optical Store building and began manufacturing precision glass lenses and other optical products there until its closure in 1987. Today, portions of The Optical Store building are still used as a storage facility for equipment used by Cagle Glass Works
Talladega is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 5,451 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Talladega was founded by General John C. Todd in 1818 and named for him after the tall trees that grew around it then. The town's first store opened in 1827 and its first post office was established in 1832. In 1835, Talladega became a community under the act of Congress created to promote agricultural development in Alabama. The town got its name from General John C. Todd, who named it "Talla-de-gee" after his unit during the War of 1812 which fought against Native American forces near modern day Talladega City limits (). In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell ordered his troops to burn down all Union stores and houses between Mobile and Montgomery on May 3rd as part of an effort to starve Union soldiers into submission (). Aftermath of this event led to increased support for secession among local residents and businesses throughout Marshall County (). By 1865, almost two thirds of Marshall County's people were seceded from the Union - with only a few hundred remaining within Confederate territory () After Alabama's admission into the Confederacy in January 1861 (), many residents chose not to follow South Carolina's example and stay within their own state (); instead they moved to newly created states like Georgia (where they formed their own militias) or Texas (where most took up cattle ranching). Only a handful of Talladega residents remained loyal to their state through all these changes [] In 1862, when Confederate General Pemberton ordered his troops onto nearby grounds known as Battle Mountain (), some locals decided that this would be their last chance for survival () so they gathered what resources they could before leaving (); some even took advantage of Federal troops being stationed there ()) At Battle Mountain (), more than 60% of Confederate soldiers killed or wounded came from here ())

However, most residents still managed to keep their establishments open during this difficult time. After World War II ended in 1945, many new businesses opened up within the town limits as people began returning home from military service overseas; some of these businesses include Ford Motors dealership ( now part of Xerox Corporation ), Coca Cola Bottling Company ( now PepsiCo ), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company ( later Tires International ), local blacksmith shop (later Jiffy Lube ) and more clothing stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Marshall Field's Department Store and JCPenney . In 1990s alone, Talladega saw three major changes: its incorporation into Montgomery County allowing for increased development opportunities within its boundaries; population growth brought about numerous new houses being built throughout downtown areas; while also seeing multiple restaurant openings including several Chinese restaurants which were popular among locals during this period due to reasonable prices and good quality food options available
