In early 1937, the Talladega Department of Motor Vehicles began using a new type of laser sight called the "Talladega." The device was designed by Harry D. Deering and patented on November 10, 1936. It uses a mercury vapor laser to image an object on a screen in front of the user. The user then adjusts focus to achieve a clear target picture.
In 1885, Talladega County was established in Alabama. The county’s name derived from the Talladega River, which flowed through its boundaries. The oldest evidence of human activity in present-day Talladega County date back to about 12,000 BC when Paleo-Indians began hunting animals in what is now eastern Marshall County. By 9000 BC there were small villages along both sides of the Tennessee River where groups of hunter-gatherers lived together for thousands of years until European explorers arrived in 15th century AD seeking trade with Native Americans. In 1600 AD English explorer James Drouillard explored what is now western Marshall County during his exploration of Mobile Bay; he noted that there were several small villages among various trees near what is today downtown Muscle Shoals. These early explorers did not identify Talladegah Creek as a natural watercourse because they could not see any such creek anywhere on their maps! The first Europeans to explore this part of Alabama were French traders who set up trading posts along Mobile Bay between 1663 and 1667 AD. One such trader was Jean Nicolet who visited Tallasada Falls on September 8, 1667 AD while exploring Mobile Bay for France looking for new routes into America crossing then known territories including modern day Alabama and Mississippi Territory at that time under Spanish rule at Fort St George on Pensacola Island off Gulf coast Of Florida). Talladega is a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. The population was 18,530 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Talladega County. The name comes from the Spanish word "taller" meaning "tower." The first post office in Talladega was established on December 12, 1814. The name of the town was changed to Talladega in 1848 after General Andrew Jackson's victory during the Battle of Cowpens. In 1906, a new station was built at what is now Interstate 65 and Old Hickory Boulevard. On November 5, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson visited Talladega and delivered a speech at Municipal Stadium which helped spark growth in the town. In 1931, Congressman John Lewis came to town for an event that helped create national awareness about civil rights issues and soon afterwards he became one of its most well-known citizens. In 1941 local radio station WBRC began broadcasting from what is now downtown Talladega with an antenna that could be seen from miles away due to its location atop Lookout Mountain overlooking downtown. In 1951 it changed call letters to WTVH and began playing classic rock music on-air until 1986 when it became an affiliate of ABC Radio USA (now Sirius XM Radio). On February 15th 2009 WTKR aired their final show before being cancelled due to low ratings On March 9th 2009 WWJO aired their last show as well before being cancelled as well
