At that time, there were few opportunities for people to purchase optical equipment and so binoculars were often used for navigation and other purposes. In the 1920s, Talladega became an important stop on the Mobile-Birmingham Railroad and as a result, businesses began to develop around the railroad station. This led to the growth of a large population in town and also increased demand for binoculars. By the late 1940s, Talladega had become home to one of America's leading optical manufacturers. The company continued to produce high-quality binoculars until it ceased operations in 1990.
Talladega is a small town in Alabama, about 125 miles southeast of Birmingham. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Talladega County. The first mention of Talladega occurs in 1819, when James Foley listed it as one of his trading posts on the Alabama River. At that time, Talladega was known as "the most important post on the river." In 1826, John Fenton built a log cabin here and named it Post 8, after his father-in-law's farm near Athens, Georgia. A few years later, he donated land to the government for a military fortification system against Indian attacks. The fort was called Fort Fenton and was completed in 1830. In 1836, George Washington Carver located Hereford cattle feeder on nearby Plantation Creek and named it Carver Station after himself and his son Reuben (1803-1882). A year later he donated $5,000 to build a school here. In 1840 Edwin Moseley founded Enterprise Manufacturing Company which manufactured cotton goods from bales brought overland by wagonloads from Mississippi Valley plantations. He also erected a sawmill and gristmill around this time. In 1848 Captain John Hogg established Hogg's Mill & Cotton Exchange here which became world famous for its cattails grown hereabouts (now used to make flour). From 1865 until 1971 all tallow production took place at Hogg's mill; afterwards it was merged into Monsanto'stallow division Americas Operations Inc.. In 1860 Tuscaloosa College opened its doors with seven students in a small building on now Neilson Boulevard east of downtown Talladega. The college soon outgrew its original location and moved to First Baptist Church across Commerce Street from present day Bryant Park; this church still stands today as an active campus ministry artery today with more than 100 buildings housing student activities such as music programs or fine arts classes etc... Talladega is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 901 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Talladega is known for its "talladega" track race horses, which are used in racing events throughout the United States and Europe. The first mention of Talladega (now known as Decatur) in history comes from an 1818 map by Pierre Laclède. At that time it was part of Creek Nation and was listed as a trading post on the Natchez Trace Road between Mobile and Pensacola. In 1819, after the Treaty of Gadsden resulted in Alabama becoming a state, Talladega became its capital and also served as the state's judicial capital during Reconstruction. In 1865, Andrew Johnson established Fort Gibson to protect southern Alabama from Confederate forces when he became president of the United States. The fort served until 1901. During that time it was home to General Robert E Lee's headquarters before he surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. In 1924, Prentice Ammons developed what would become one of America's largest cotton plantations in nearby Huntsville along Clear Creek Reservoir within present-day Marshall County; Ammons named his property "Talladega". He continued to produce cotton until his death in 1951. After his death most of his land passed into trust among various descendants so that it could be used for coal mining or other environmentally friendly purposes; however some portions still remain within present day Marshall County limits while others have been incorporated into larger communities such as Decatur or Huntsville proper since 1981). Ammons' plantation remains significant because it provided much-needed employment for local residents during both World War II and postwar years; When production ceased about 1950 many workers returned home butanol refineries were built near Decatur by then with little impact on local economies due to oil price changes subsequent to OPEC membership.)
In 1892, Talladega was the site of a racecar rally that attractedNASCAR drivers from all over the country. The event helped to revive interest in racing in the area and it has been held each year since then.
