The downtown area of Sylacauga contains several historic buildings such as The Luray Block House built by Jeptha Bell in 1865 which served as the first courthouse in Marshall County when it opened its doors on November 1, 1865. Other notable buildings include: The Masonic Temple (1902), First Baptist Church (1887), Lamar High School (1936), The Harrison Building (1920) and many more.
