The town of Scottsboro, Alabama is home to one of the most celebrated rifle matches in history. The event has been held every year since 1879 and has featured some of the world’s greatest shooters. The match pits American farmers against Confederate troops in a competition to shoot the best groups from a variety of rifles. One of the earliest Rifle matches was held at Fort Gibson on July 10th, 1859. A total of 20 men took part in this event, which was won by John Pemberton with his Spencer rifle. In 1861, Rifle Match #3 was organized in Scottsboro and saw victory for both sides over five days. By 1865, RifleMatch#5 had been cancelled due to the Civil War. In 1875, an unofficial match between Americans and Confederates was held at Tattnall’s Station located about two miles west of Scottsboro. This event proved to be very important as it helped solidify relationships between these groups and began a tradition that continues today. The first official Rifle Match at Fort Worth occurred on November 2nd, 1876 and saw victory for America over Confederacy under the leadership of General Robert E Lee. This event would later become known as Battle Of Gettysburg and would determine American control over much of southern Pennsylvania during World War II

No one was injured but the fire destroyed most of the community including 85% of its buildings and more than half its citizens were lost forever in that night's flames which consumed every home within sight or reach
