Scottsboro's name comes from "Scotch" (a word meaning "borderland") and "town" because it was originally part of Montgomery County. In 1955, when Alabama became an independent state, Scottsboro lost its county seat to Montgomery and became a separate town within Jefferson County. The townsite where Scottsboro now stands was first settled by Scotsmen working for the railroads in what is now southern Jefferson County. By 1881, most of the Scots had died or moved away, replaced by other English immigrants who arrived during that year's agricultural boom inAlabama. The new settlers named their community Scottsboro after one of their own homes in Edinburgh, Scotland – a place they also visited frequently while living there as workers on the railroad. Over time, Scottsboro's small population grew gradually as more and more people came to live thereabouts: In 1925 it had just 10 residents; by 1930 it had 30; and by 1935 it had 50. The early years were difficult for newly arrived Americans: Many were unfamiliar with Alabama's climate and language barriers made life even harder for them. But despite someinitial difficulties, over time many Scotsmen born in America made themselves useful members of society here – both as farmers and shopkeepers until World War II when they took up arms against Nazi Germany as American citizens did throughout much of Europe. After World War II ended most Scotchtborians returned home but continue to live here today among their own descendants - something which has helped keep this little-known community alive through times OF Economic strife (most notably during the Great Depression), political turbulence (including several periods of racial tension)and numerous natural disasters including devastating floods that swept through central Alabama during 2009-10

Scottsboro, Alabama is a town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. Scottsboro was founded in 1892 by Scottish settlers and named for their home island of Islay. The first post office in Scottsboro was established on December 15, 1892. The first settler to arrive in what is now Marshall County was John Beattie and his family on December 5th. In 1893, Scotsman Allan Macdonald came to Scottsboro from Canada with his wife and two children to start a new life and look for land to farm. They found a piece of land that they platted out into lots and built their homes there. In 1906, when the town of Montgomery became its own municipality within Marshall County, Scottsboro applied for incorporation as well but received no response from Montgomery officials because it was considered an unincorporated community at that time. On July 10th 1907 however, commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of incorporation after hearing about complaints made by residents about lack of services available in the township such as water supplies or schools. On October 6th 1907 the town's badge was granted by the state legislature which stated "in honor of all who have contributed unto its growth and development." As more people moved into Scottsboro over time it grew more commercialized with businesses opening up like grocery stores along with churches (including one founded by Methodists), bars/restaurants and even a movie theater serving local communities outside Montgomery until it closed down around 1990s due to economic difficulties faced by many local businesses including changes in transportation law which resulted in less business opportunity nearBy . Today much evidence remains from early days such as pioneer cemetery still visible today along Witham Creek Parkway which once served as main road through town center before being upgraded to freeway status late last century; this area has been designated as Historic Site #4357
Scottsboro began as a slave town in Alabama in 1857. It was located on the route of the now-defunct Scottsboro Railroad. A group of white men, led by Sam Houston, decided to free all the slaves in Scottsboro and then march them to nearby Mobile to sell them into slavery. The freed slaves fought back, and three white men were killed. The town was destroyed in a fire that started while the men were trying to leave, and most of its residents died in the fire.
