Saraland, Alabama is a small town in the Mobile County area of Alabama. The population was 1,512 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur metropolitan area. The oldest inhabitant of Saraland was James Barber who settled there in 1819. At first it was a log cabin community with a few families and six men working on hand mills and tanning hides from hogs and deer that were their main sources of income. Moses Morse established a ferry landing on the Mobile River about two miles north of present day Saraland about 1840, which became an important transportation link between Mobile and nearby Decatur. By 1860, more than 20 businesses had been founded in Saraland byavers including hardware stores, grocery stores, banks, physician's offices, blacksmiths and teachers. In 1871 local merchant John Witherspoon organized efforts to build what would become Huntsville—the first full city in Alabama—on land east of present day Saraland along US-1 (later I-10). When Witherspoon died in 1875 without having completed his ambitious project, others took up the cause but little progress was made until 1883 when entrepreneur C S Landrum purchased Witherspoon's land and started construction on what would become downtown Huntsville; Landrum named his development "Saraland". The town quickly grew into an important commercial center for much of central Mobile County as well as parts of Baldwin County before becoming an incorporated municipality in 1907 with its own government structure which remained unchanged until 1959 when it joined the larger neighboring municipality of Huntsville. In recent years SARALAND has experienced significant growth with new business districts being created around its core business district – downtown Huntsville – as well as additional areas located off I-10 near Fairchild Airport and Kingsport Municipal Airport. Today SARALAND straddles the line between rural farming communities such as Upper Providence while also enjoying access to major shopping malls such as Downtown Huntsville Shopping Center (DUH), Fairchild Airport mall (KHR), Kingsport Municipal Airport mall (KSA) and Millbrookcenter Mall (MCL). Today SARALAND continues to be an economic powerhouse with many jobs available for those interested in agriculture or other traditional agricultural pursuits; however some residents are focusing increasingly towards servicessector businesses such as health care facilities or technology companies such as Samsung Electronics Company USA Incorporated ().

Saraland, Alabama is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 1847 by George Washington Saraland and his wife Eliza. The Saraland post office was established in 1848. The Saraland Baptist Church was built in 1860 and the town has been around since then. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico between Mobile Bay and Baldwin County to the south and east and Tuscaloosa County to the north. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Saraland in 1847. George Washington Saraland came from Baltimore with his family and started a farm near present-day downtown Saraland. He named the farm after himself, Sarpindalooğuşa ( meaning "sandy beach"). In 1850, he moved his family to what is now Baldwin County where they began to build homes. They also opened a store that lasted until 1865 when it burned down. The building still stands today as a museum called the George Washington saralan Museum which tells about life in SARALAND during its early years. In 1862, SARALAND had its first schoolhouse built by Clements Bros., who were also responsible for bringing water from nearby Baldwin County into SARALAND for irrigation purposes later that year. That same year saw the opening of the first post office in SARALAND when G W Sargent served as clerk with J F Stiles as messenger/cashier/comptroller.. In 1863, SARALAND had its first doctor appointed when Dr John A Ligon doctored horses for local farmers.. By 1865, SARALAND had 5 families living there with 81 acres (30 ha)of land under cultivation yielding $2 per acre ($160 total). On February 17th of that year, SARALAND's incorporation papers were filed with Marshall Co Recorder Mr C P Gilliland Jr.. There are many stories about how SARALAND grew over time but one story particularly highlights how people have helped make this small town thrive; they have donated their time and talent to help build schools such as First Baptist church (1860), Second Baptist church (1868), Third Baptist church (1910), Fourth Baptist church (1920) and Fifth Methodist Episcopal Church (1925). Many businesses have also been started or continue operation here including: J F Stiles Law Offices(1863-1968), Mrs Busby's grocery(188G3 1918-present), TP SECURITY SERVICES INC.(1991-2006) & BANK OF AMERICA CORP.(1984-present). Additionally some notable landmarks include: USS Constitution Museum(1976-) & USS Constitution Museum Foundation((2004-)). The economy of SARALAND has always been based on agriculture due to its location at the mouth of Mobile Bay which provides both fresh water resources available all year long as well as access to markets throughout much ofAlabama thanks to Interstate 10 running through it
