Gun targets have been a part of Saraland, Alabama for over 150 years. The first target was erected in 1851 by order of the Court House Superintendent. A second target was built in 1855 and still stands today. Targets were also erected at different locations throughout the years, but are now located at the County Fairgrounds. Saraland is an unincorporated community in Sumter County, Alabama, United States. It lies along U.S. Route 19 southwest of the city of Birmingham. The Saraland post office was discontinued on July 1, 1970, and its ZIP code is 35362. The community was named for Saraland Place in Mobile, Alabama. The first permanent settler in Saraland was John Neely Hale on a tract of land purchased from the Mobile River Indian tribe in 1836. In 1838, Hale married Sarah Ann Sibley, who had also come to Mobile from Cumming County, Georgia. Together they founded the town of Saraland on what is now Old Mission Road east of present-day Bryant Street in 1839 as part of a larger effort to establish settlements around the bend in the river known then as "The Headwaters." A schoolhouse was built here in 1840 by Mrs. Sibley and her husband while they were living at Saraland; it served as the village's only public building until 1861 when a new schoolhouse was erected on Summit Avenue north of Bywater Road (now US-19/20). In that year, due to damage done by a tornado that struck nearby Sheffield just two years earlier, much work had to be done to rebuild Main Street between Butler and Summit Avenues after it became damaged by waterlogging during heavy rains caused by Hurricane Mayteztah three weeks earlier; this included grading and re-paving the entire street surface from its original high banks to a more level surface near where it now stands In 1849–50 Colonel James Waddell established an academy (later called Tuskegee Institute) at what is now Auburn University; students from Saraland attended his academy for one term before returning home for their next term at Tuskegee . This development led to considerable business interest expended by businesses closeby in bringing both instructors and students back into town during these brief summer months; such activity helped contribute significantly to later growth and development within saraland dating back well beyond those early days In 1870 Samuel Hanna opened his store here which became one of SARALAND'S most important economic engines with its daily shipments totaling over $1 million annually through 1984 By 1880 there were over 50 residents living here including many farmers who grew crops such as cotton and rice ; however production stopped abruptly due largely to problems with railroad construction across Sumter County which blocked off access needed for shipping raw materials necessary for Processing mills located throughout Sumter County

The purpose of a TGT is twofold: 1) To provide excellent training on how to use a shotgun while also providing enjoyable target shooting experiences for everyone involved; and 2) To help law enforcement officers improve their marksmanship skills by practicing against live suspects or criminals who may be armed and dangerous. Saraland is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. It was platted in 1874 and named for P.S. Saraland, a banker and landowner who donated the land to the county. The first store in Saraland was built by J.T. Smith and operated until 1902. The first school was built in 1907, and the first post office opened in 1909. In 1916, Saraland became the seat of Tuscaloosa County after it was moved from its previous location east of Highway 10 to its present site west of Highway 9. As of the 2010 census, Saraland had a population of 709 people living in 97 houses. The community experienced significant growth during World War II when it became home to the Tuskegee Airmen Training School which functioned as an airbase for Allied pilots training during World War II. After the war ended, Saraland experienced modest growth until the mid-1980s when it began experiencing significant residential development due to new highways being constructed within miles of town center including Interstate 20 and US-19 linking Birmingham with Mobile and Montgomery metropolitan areas respectively. This rapid growth has led to increased traffic congestion and pollution on nearby streets which have forced several residents to relocate their businesses into more sustainable locations such as northtown or southtown which are much closer to downtown Tuscaloosa City Limits). Today, Saraland remains a vibrant community with many businesses operating within its boundaries including two banks; two restaurants; three convenience stores; four churches; one doctor's office; one law firm; four schools (one high school and three middle schools) as well as two parks located within its limits providing opportunities for open-air exercise along with ample shopping opportunities at local boutiques, general stores, pet shops and convenience stores situated throughout town center making it an ideal place to live, work or play while also enjoying access to excellent public services including libraries (one branch inside each business), hospitals (one branch inside each hospital), buses that serve both downtown Tuscaloosa City Limits AND neighboring municipalities such as Eufaula/Emmett Township (serving as a central hub for transportation options for both urban residents & rural Residents) as well as water systems serving multiple neighborhoods adjacent to town center giving residents easy access & convenient access TO everything imaginable without havingto leave their comfortable homes!
