Saraland, Alabama is a small town in Mobile County, Alabama. The population was 547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Troy-Bainbridge metropolitan area. The first guns in Saraland were made by Spanish moss shooters from the Presidio of San Luis Potosi on November 4, 1807. There are references to firearms in early Saraland history. On February 24, 1811, General John Coffee ordered all men over 21 years of age to bring their arms with them when they went into town for supplies; and on November 6 that year Captain James Robertson reported that he had found "a great number of pistols and revolvers" at the presidio. Gunsmiths began making rifles and shotguns in Saraland in the late 1800s. Gun parts were made from various materials including wood, metal, leather and animal skin. In 1912 local gunsmiths started making firearms using only American steel rather than European imports because there was no other type ofsteel available at that time aside from Russian Krupp products which were too expensive for most Americans to afford In 1915 Carbine magazine got a hold of a Winchester Model 1895 rifle - one of just 10 acquired worldwide - and decided to test fire it at an event held at Hotel de France in New York City . The rifle's action caused such excitement among magazines editors that they offered US$100 each for anyone who could make an unbroken barrel within 72 hours after acquiring it (the factory refused to take any orders). At this point gunsmiths had enough steel so they began producing barrels without breaking them down into calibers

Carver told Colt that he had developed a Means to produce more efficient corn stalks using steam power which would allow farmers to raise crops without having to machine them. This led to the development of the first self-loading shotgun and pistol, both of which were manufactured by New England Arms Company in 1869.

The first settlers in Saraland were white men who came from Georgia and arrived around 1820. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Yazoo River. The first school was opened in 1827 and it was taught by subscription from locals. In 1828, some white men from Georgia started to farm land southwest of Saraland and they named their new settlement after General James Hogg, an American general who had fought against Spanish forces during the Mexican-American War. Colonel John Cushing, a military officer from Tennessee took over as manager of the new community and he organized a Methodist church which served Saraland until 1833 when he sold it to Elijah Whitehurst. During Reconstruction years (1868-1877), Saraland became one of many black towns in Alabama that suffered due to racial discrimination faced by whites who felt they needed slave labor for their businesses and plantations. This meant that African Americans were not given full rights under law, such as voting or education opportunities. However, most residents tried to overcome these challenges through active political engagement and organizing efforts.
Saraland, Alabama was founded in 1819 by John Wesley Powell. The town is located in the Sumter County seat of Geneva and covers an area of about 54 square miles.
