After some initial trade skirmishes between Spaniards and Papinesque natives, Columbus decided against attacking Canada anyway due to his fear of encountering hostile natives wielding modern weaponry such as cannons instead of simple spears/arrows! When Columbus finally did visit Canada about 4 years later he saw that this land was indeed inhabited by human beings who had different cultural practices from those he had encountered back home on Hispaniola ( Cuba ). He realized that if he wanted to find out more about this new nation he would need help from someone who could show him around! So [he] sent two men ashore with instructions […] To explore everything possible about this place before making any decisions concerning its inhabitants we must wait until reinforcements arrive from Spain; meantime our ships must return home … We will only make landfall here if there are no obstacles preventing us from continuing our journey inland… Anybody who finds himself stranded on shore during our stay should come ashore immediately under cover of night so we may not be forced into battle with [these] strange people…. It should be remembered also that during our stay here we will not be able to take any prisoners since we do not want anyone coming back with us empty handed!(Goudreau 1994:5) With Columbus' arrival came increased contact between Indigenous peoples and European colonists across what is now North America - including contact between The Algonquin tribe known as The Potlatch Chiefs and Francisco Pizarro . After some skirmishes over trade goods, Pizarro convinced the Potlatch Chiefs to allow him access into their territory so he could learn more about his surroundings before making any decisions about invading Peru . This interaction led to pizza being born when Francisco's lieutenant Diego de Portocarrero tasted Indian food while aboard ship captained by Pizarro
