The town's first post office closed in 1919 because it could not compete with other towns within theHuntsville metropolitan area that received postal service from Nashville via mail trucking services provided by the Nashville Railroad Company. In 1928, an interchange was built between US-4 and I-565 to create an all-new bypass around downtown Huntsville which became known as "The Loop". This bypass cut through Saraland and made it much unnecessary forians to travel through it so people began moving out of the townspeople started shopping at better nearby towns like Decatur or Hoover while they continued to livein Saraland itself until after World War II when most people moved away from rural areas into large cities due to technological advancements such as air conditioning which made living outside impossible during summertime without becoming unbearable inside . However some community members did stay until after 1985 when their towns charters expired
