Prichard, who served as an artilleryman in the Alabama Volunteers during the Spanish-American War. In 1903, Colonel Prichard purchased a second Winchester model 1892 rifle and used it to shoot at American warships off of Cuba. One of the most famous residents of Prichard has been Dr. Jens Ludwig who practiced medicine here from 1953 until his death in 2009. Ludwig was an accomplished doctor with a long record of service to patients both locally and statewide through his practice at Our Lady's Medical Center as well as numerous other hospitals across Alabama and Tennessee where he served as Director or Vice President for various medical groups or departments over many years - making him one of Alabama's most respected physicians both before he came to Prichard and after he passed away ceasing operations locally due to age related limitations.

Prichard, Alabama is a town in Hale County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Prichard was James Fenton who arrived in 1825. Fenton built his home on what is now Main Street and named it "Fenton's Crossing". By 1830 he had a post office and store. In 1836, Isaac Chilton founded the Chilton Bank in Prichard with $5 capitalization. In 1881, Elijah Hogg established an agricultural colony near present-day Junction City called Hogg's Grove which became a city in 1903 when it amalgamated with nearby Tuscaloosa. The town center was platted in 1907 by Prentice Wold and includes the original courthouse (c 1911), three banks (1911-13), four churches (1914-17), two stores (1918-20), one school (1920), and a few residences throughout its history. A cotton gin was built by John Sitton on the banks of the Flint River northwest of present day junction City limits in 1914; this gin operated until 1942 when it was destroyed by floodwaters caused by Hurricane Katrina). In 1925, J C Whitehead organized Mobile & Texas Power Company to provide power to developing areas along Mobile Bayou east of US 231 between I-10 and I-459/US 421 from 1923 until 1948 when M&TP merged into Gulf Power Corporation making Prichard completely dependent on Gulf Electric Company for power production until 1992; however during that time there were intermittent attempts to bring electric service to Prichard as well as other small communities within reach including Junction City which finally received electricity from Gulf Power Corporation after years of effort starting back before that time! Today many residents still rely on energy produced by gulf power companies such as Gulf Electric Company or Alabama Power Company
The Town of Prichard was founded in 1802 by William Prichard. The town was named after him because he had the first land grant for the community. In 1814, the Post Office was established in the town and remained so until 1901. In 1903, a new school was built in the town and it remains in use today. In 1916, a cotton gin was built in the town. In 1922, a water tower was constructed in the town. In 1933, a post office building and other buildings were completed in the town. The original mill on Prichard Creek ceased operations in 1951 but has been restored and is still active.
