When it first settled, the area was part of the Creek Nation. In 1837, Prichard became a county seat under the new Alabama Constitution. The town's growth came during the cotton boom of the 19th century. Firms such as Gadsden & Co., Asa Gray & Son, and Piggott Brothers Ltd. were established in Prichard to produce cotton while also manufacturing goods such as shoes and saddles. By 1900, there were 100 businesses in Prichard with 1,500 employees. In World War II, many people from Prichard served in the military including Sgt.(jg.) Don Halleck who symbolized the town's patriotism when he enlisted on December 12th 1941; Pvt.(cpl.) Jerry Bowers who fought at Iwo Jima; Pvt.(pfc.) Forrest Sumpter who fought at Okinawa; Sgt.(jg.) Leroy Epps who died in action during Operation Neptune's Spear; Pvt.(lt) Donald Aveling who served with Company D 507th Infantry Regiment 2nd Infantry Division During World War II
Prichard was a small town in Alabama, United States from the early 1800s until the late 1910s. It was located on the Cahaba River and had a population of around 150 people. The town and its associated industries were destroyed by a flood in 1913.
