In 1918, the Gunnery School of World War Iopened its doors in Prattville and began issuing weapons to military personnel of all countries throughout the war. The school continued to issue weapons until 1959 when it closed its doors due to budget cuts at United States Military Academy at West Point. The Gunnery School building still stands today and is used as a museum for firearms history and education purposes.
