Prattville is located on Uhl Road near Interstate 10/Uhl Bridge Road which provides access to both rural areas east of the city limits and downtown Mobile; as well as access to routes 15 (Alabama State Route 278), US 301/US 85 (the Macon Pike corridor), US 11 (the Mobile-Amarillo Highway), US 199/US 82 (the Baldwin Highway) and I-10/Uhl Bridge Road itself.

Prattville was a small town in Alabama until the late 1800s. It is now part of Huntsville, Alabama. The town was established in 1814 as a result of the nearby Pratt Mill and Company cotton gin being built by James Pratt. At its peak, Prattville had a population of around 100 people. The mill closed in 1881, but the community continued to thrive until the mid-19th century when it essentially disappeared due to farming and other economic factors. However, some evidence suggests that Prattville may have been founded as early as 1797 by John Pope and his brother Nicholas Pope. In 1814 James Pratt founded the company that built the mill which made cotton goods for local merchants and consumers. By 1830, most of what is now Prattville had been developed with several stores, a post office, and two churches existing at different times - one from 1821 and another from 1827/28. In 1840 William Hargrave purchased an acreage within what is now Park Heights Cemetery for $5 per acre which he used to build a home known as "Hargrave's Grove". The house still stands today on an old plantation lot adjacent to Park Heights Elementary School - it has not been occupied since 1840! Hargrave also donated land surrounding his home for use as a school ground (known then as Academy Street) which later becameHuntsville High School footings before becoming Huntsville Middle School in 1962.
Prattville was founded in 1828 by John Pratt, a Scottish-born lawyer and politician who became the first mayor of Birmingham. In 1829, Prattville became the seat of Jefferson County. The town thrived during the 1830s as cotton plantations grew throughout Alabama, and local businesses such as mills and stores prospered. Prattville experienced some growth during the 1840s, when slaves were brought over to work on plantations in nearby Mobile Bay. Slavery ended in Alabama in 1865. After the Civil War, Prattville transitioned into a sleepy farming town that continued to decline until it was annexed by Birmingham in 1931.
