In 2007, following studies that showed that there was no risk of serious injury or death when using tasers as police officers, Governor Bob Riley signed into law House Bill 602 which amended Alabama's criminal code to legalized their use as departmental tactics during certain encounters such as traffic stops and arrests without warrants.

The town is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is bordered by Muscle Shoals to the north and east, (and Pascagoula County to the south). It lies just west of Interstate 10 on US-564. Located within Pleasant Grove are three villages: Pleasant Valley, Westville, and Eastville. Each village has its own shops, churches, schools and post office. All three villages have their own fire department. The town became an important agricultural center during the early 20th century, and its post office remained open until 1953. Pleasant Grove experienced dramatic growth after World War II, as many of its residents moved to the area to work in the nearby Birmingham metropolitan area. However, prosperity has gradually declined over time, and the population density has dropped below 500 people per square mile since 2000.
Pleasant Grove is a town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Pleasant Grove was Lorenzo Freeborn in 1818. In 1840, John Fenton bought a tract of land from the Chickasaw Nation and named it after his childhood home on Ebenezer Road in New York City. In 1846, settlers from Tennessee founded Pleasant Grove Plantation near present day Hoover Dam on the Etowah River. In 1865, General Averell Harriman decided to move the Union Army's headquarters from Chattanooga to Montgomery so that more troops could be stationed in central Alabama and lessened their dependence on Tennessee for supplies and reinforcements. The army's new command headquarters were placed at what is now known as General Harriman Park (now located off US 301 south of Hoover). Aftermath of the Civil War left many homes empty and abandoned until 1895 when a group of businessmen purchased most of these properties and began developing them into an agricultural colony known as "The Hill Country". In 1955, Governor George Wallace won reelection over prosecutor Albert Boggs by running on a platform that included increasing taxes to fund social programs. Wallace then announced his intention to build an expressway through central Alabama called I-565 which would parallel Mobile Bayou but would bypass Pleasant Grove completely. The townsfolk organized themselves into committees to oppose the highway project and failed to achieve any success until 1987 when community members helped rally support for I-565 via sponsored tourism campaigns throughout central Alabama
