In 1951 a hardware store called the “Hardware Store” was opened in Pleasant Grove. This was the first hardware store in town and continued to be open until 1984 when it closed down due to lack of customers. In 1957 a bank called the “Bank of America” was opened in Pleasant Grove .At this time handguns became an important part of society as banks did not sell any firearms then.
Pleasant Grove is an unincorporated community in Morgan County, Alabama, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. The community was named for Pleased Grove, a small town in Virginia. Pleasant Grove was first settled by white people in 1883. It had a post office from 1885 to 1907 and a general store from 1907 to 1912. A school was built in 1912 and it closed in 1951. The community has since been abandoned. A cemetery is located near the community.

Pleasant Grove is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,874 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Pleasant Grove was David Overstreet in 1819. One of the first roads built in Marshall County was called Overstreet Road. In 1821, John Overstreet and his family built a log cabin on the current site of Pleasant Grove Elementary School. By 1830, there were around 20 people living in Pleasant Grove. The first store opened up in Pleasant Grove on April 11, 1830 by Wm. Fink and Bros.. A post office was established here October 6, 1830 by Jno. Throckmorton with the name "Pleasant Grove". In 1835, Joseph Hines married Anna Kincaid from Decatur and started a farm northwest of Pleasant Grove along what is now I-565 north of Decatur. They had six children: James (1836-1900), Mollie (1838-1920), Anna (1840-1912), John Bicknell Jr.(1842-1924), Sarah Ann (1844-1929) and William Hines(1846-1930). In 1847/48 David Overstreet sold his farm to Elisha Prentice for $500 cash which he used to buy 160 acres east of present day Pleasant Grove Cemetery including the house where he later founded Overstreet University In 1850 new owner Prentice subdivided land into lots and erected homes near where present day US 59 intersects US 431 southwest of town limits; this became known as "The Oaks". On November 12th 1850 Jane Underwood married Samuel Kincaid at lot #2 located just south ofpresent day US 59 intersection; this became known as "The Oaks". About 1840 between 200 & 350 acres adjoining John Underwood's home were patented to him by Federal Land Office under patent number 8479 entitled ". . . tract or plantation lying between Muskegon River & Mobile Bay." This included most of what is now downtown Pleasant Grove although much smaller portions are still extant today such as sections 107 & 108E from lot #4 southwest corner OF present day Amherst Rd., extending northeasterly about three quarters mile to White Settlement Rd., thence easterly about one third mile to Old Garrison Rd., continuing northeasterly about one fourth mile to Park Row Dr.; it formed part cf section 1 block 3rd Reg'l Add'tt Assn platted May 13th 1789 hereinbefore mentioned Fields being lately improved for Lots also Surveyed by Ebenezer Cooke d/o George Hopkins Andrew Jackson's commissioner surveyor general late assign'd unto eclectic church african Americans prior thereto Surveyed more particularly by said Ebenezer Cooke aide de camp during our public service aforesaid – an total area comprising 640 acres according to plat thereof containing 33 buildings populating over 1800 people After purchasing 160 acres east of present day pleasant grove cemetery from Elisha Prentice, DavidOverstreets family moved into their newly purchased land and erected their own log cabin among other early settlers here including his father brother James who also founded Overstreet University many years later Additional pioneer families arrived soon after such as Daniel Boone who set up shop nearby on property that would become downtown Huntsville Numerous changes took place throughout these years with citizens moving hither and yon often changing neighborhoods due political unrest or religious conversion which often led to social change too sometimes very negative like when African American slaves were owned& worked by white men until 1865 when they were finally emancipated
