Pleasant Grove is a small town in north-central Alabama, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Pleasant Grove was John Pritchard in 1867. He and his family arrived from England on a ship called "Osprey". Pleasant Grove was platted in 1871 by Jno. Witherspoon and A.M. Hardesty as a place to provide a landing spot for travelers coming down the Mobile River to Huntsville and Birmingham. The firstPost Office opened in 1874 with nine subscribers, all residents of nearby Huffman County. In 1886, the railroad came through town, making it possible for people to get jobs commuting to larger cities such as Mobile or Birmingham. By 1912, there were over 100 businesses in town and over 300 people living hereabouts; by 1976 the number had fallen to about 60 businesses and 30 residents (though many have since closed). In honor of its early pioneers, the Town has named two streets after them - John Pritchard Boulevard and A.M Hardesty Boulevard - as well as several parks including Pleasant Grove Park which includes an ice cream parlor built in 1925 by local entrepreneur Cecil Higgins Sr.. This small community began life as a small farming village though production declined until World War II when some new farmers moved intotown started planting soybeans which became one of PleasantGrove's mainstay industries during that time period . Postwar growth then led to expansion into other fields such as retailing (the original downtown grocery store being replaced by today's Walmart) while maintaining much of the characterof its rural roots: remained small school districts with several churches serving the populace; most residents still farm their own land using conventional methods; few buses run thru town so most services are available only from neighboring townsfolk who shuttle visitors back & forth on their bikes or cars As development picked up along I-565 between Tuskegee Air Force Base & Montgomery County Airport things got hectic with more businesses opening up along that corridor but growth stalled because no one wanted to build near schools or transportation arteries created when those airports came online

However, thanks to several community initiatives such as financial support for local businesses and donations from individuals and organizations such as the American Legionnaires' Association and Goodwill Industries of America, business revived soon after through appropriations from county government coffers totaling $521 contributed by residents alone between 1934-1938! In 1951 Pleasant Grove joined Montgomery County as it began annexing surrounding communities including Vestavia Hills and Bloomfield Hills southward into its borders – ultimately resulting in more than doubling the population of our once small town over that decade! In 1998–1999 Pleasantly Grove served as host city for world Expo '98′s Global Technology Exhibition (GTE). More recently (2006), Pleasant Grove has been home to two annual events: Its 4th Annual Country Day Parade on Saturday Lawn starting at 10am sharp followed by its Agricultural Fairgrounds on Sunday afternoon featuring stalls selling produce from local farmers; both events are open to all citizens regardless of age or disability/ illness

Pleasant Grove grew rapidly and by 1823 it had a population of about 150 people. In 1865, the community was named for General Robert E. Lee, who died at the Battle of Gettysburg. A post office was established at Pleasant Grove in 1872, and from that time until 1975, it was known as "Robert E. Lee Post Office."
