Pleasant Grove, Alabama is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after Pleasant Hilla Parish in Louisiana. The first post office was established in 1870 and the population growth continued until 1887 when it reached its peak with 2,063 residents. However, by 1890 there were only 891 residents remaining and by 1901 it had decreased to 711 residents. This steady decline continued until 1907 when the community recorded an increase of 521 residents due to an influx of new immigrants from Hungary and Czechoslovakia as part of World War I. However, this growth stopped soon afterwards due to high levels of poverty and lack of available land for farming. In 1925 the local Baptist congregation merged with two other denominations which increased membership from 486 to 1,055 people before disbanding in 1951 due to schism within their church group over political issues related to civil rights activism on behalf of African Americans living in white society.
