The shooting was considered an act of terrorism. In 1990, two gunmen invaded the home of Representative Don Payne and shot him three times outside his house. Payne survived but was critically injured. In 1994, four gunmen walked into the office of Jerald Puente and fatally shot him before taking off in his car. Two gunmen had died by that time and one had been apprehended. In 1995, five gunmen stormed into the home of Carl Tiller and shot him six times while he was inside his house. Tiller survived but sustained serious injuries as a result of the shooting. On November 7th, 2000, three men burst into the home of Nehemiah Tate with handguns and began shooting at random occupants inside while they were trying to sleep. Three people were killed (Tate included) and four others were wounded during this attack which is now considered to be one of the deadliest shootings in Pleasant Grove history.
Pleasant Grove is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. It is located on the east side of the Mountain View Reservoir. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. Pleasant Grove was founded in 1885 by James A. Pleasant and his wife Sarah Boudreau as a small farming community located within present-day Highland Park. They named their community after a nearby hill called "Hollow Tree" because of its many sweet chestnut trees that lined the road to it from rural hills south of town. In 1902, Pleasant Grove's post office opened and continued to serve until it closed in 1933. The first school in Pleasant Grove was built on what is now the east side of Mountain View Reservoir in 1885. That school served grades one through four until 1928 when Highland Park Elementary School moved into operation and then Pleasant Grove Elementary School became part of Highland Park Middle School which continues to serve students through eighth grade today. The first kindergarten class met at home before going to school at Highland Park Elementary School for two years until 1907 when they moved into a new building that still stands today on Old Cahaba Road near junction with State Route 316 (now US Hwy 278). Gun control advocates and Second Amendment rights advocates mobilized to demand that Congress pass new gun laws following the tragedy. In the weeks and months that followed, more guns were shot into public places than ever before – a trend that has only grown since. Gun violence is preventable if we can get our act together. And as we know, prevention is easier said than done. To date, however, there has been a concerted effort by both government and private entities to improve gun security in America. Here are five key items that have made progress in improving firearm security over the past few years: 1) Improved Background Checks: The Obama administration first pushed for stricter background checks on all buyers of firearms beginning in 2009. This measure was an important step forward because it helped reduce accidental shootings and suicides involving firearms. The system now requires states to conduct criminal historieschecks on all applicants before they are allowed to purchase a weapon or ammunition (a process known as “background check loophole”). 2) Expansion of Ammunition Limits: In 2013, Congress passed the National Firearms Act Amendments of 2013 which introduced new limits on how much ammo a single person could purchase without obtaining a license from ATF (the agency responsible for regulating firearms). This law also put into place restrictions on who may possess large quantities of ammunition and what type of ammunition can be sold atgun shows/dealerships. Pleasant Grove is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Marshall County and has a radius of about 10 miles. The first settlers in Pleasant Grove were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1836. They built a cabin near what is now the intersection of US-411 and FM 1897. From here they started preaching to local farmers and trading goods with them. In 1840, Pleasant Grove had only six residents when it was platted by Jeptha Dillard. Dillard named the community after his daughter's birthplace,pleasant grove in England. In 1846, Joseph Ladd purchased 640 acres near Pleasant Grove from Colonel John Fenton for $5 per acre ($100 total). This land would be used for farming until it was taken over by the military during World War II as an airfield known as Luke Air Force Base (now Luke Air Force Base/Alabama National Guard Field). In 1924, Pleasant Grove had a black church that served as both their public school and church until it burned down in 1931. The next year, they chartered their own school district which still operates today under the name "Pleasant Grove Elementary School". In 1955, they became citizens of Marshall County when it was created following approval by the state legislature. A post office called Pleasant Grove was established at this time and remained operational until 1959; however, no items received there survive to this day (the last record being dated October 9th 1930). The first store opened in Pleasant Grove in 1903; it was operated by Mrs Jane Whitehead before being acquired by Wm Hargrave & Sons who ran it until 1939.. A 1906 map shows that there were three stores in town: Whitehead's Store #1 on Main Street between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street (later renamed First Addition Road), Cook's Store #2 on Second Avenue between Fourth Street and Fifth Street (later renamed Third Addition Road), and Hammonds' Store #3 on Third Avenue between Fourth Street and Fifth Street (later renamed Fourth Place Road). There are no records remaining to support these claims but given that all three stores closed within two years of each other most likely due to economic reasons or competition from larger businesses nearby one can assume that one or more of these stores may have closed because they could not handle increased traffic associated with growing postal service operations within town limits."
