Blair to gain the annexation. In 1894, Mobile was annexed into Alabama and the name of the county changed from Mobile County to Montgomery County. Pleasant Grove continued to be part of Montgomery until 2000 when it re-annexed with Mobile County.
Pleasant Grove is a small town located in the Marshall County, Alabama region. The population of Pleasant Grove was 5,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Tucker Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1873 by brothers John and James Hargrave. The original post office was called "Harrison". In 1905, the name of the town changed to "Pleasant Grove." When it became attached to Mobile, it again changed its name to "Pleasant Grove." The current form of the town's name comes from a speech given by President Ulysses S. Grant on April 12, 1865 at a meeting in Pleasant Grove Church: "I have been here since 1861; I remember when this place first came under our jurisdiction as part of Mobile county – and I know that many people hereabouts will recollect an event which took place about that time – near by where we now stand – when General Forrest moved his army into this vicinity forthe purpose of taking possession of Mobile city." As one might expect with such an important location within Confederate territory during the American Civil War (1861-65), much activity took place in and around Pleasant Grove. One particular incident occurred early in Pleasant Grove's history when Union forces burned down several homes and businesses while occupiers were inside trying to escape. This resulted in one resident organizing a citizens' militia to protect their property until help could arrive. Many residents also chose to remain loyal to Confederate States Of America throughout the war because doing so meant they could avoid service or face punishment from Union troops occupying their hometowns. After the war, many immigrants began arriving in Pleasant Grove and helped contribute to its growth over time. Some examples include German settlers who arrived after World War I; Irish Catholics who came after Prohibition ended; African Americans who worked odd jobs during Reconstruction; and Poles who arrived during World War II preceding Operation Passage Overground which led up to Nazi occupation of Poland beginning September 1st 1939 AD

Pleasant Grove is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,873 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1819 by John Graves Simms and others as a farming community on the neck of the mountain that stands today between Pleasant Grove and Vestavia Hills. In 1865, Pleasant Grove became an independent municipality. The first settlers in what is now Pleasant Grove were Methodist missionaries who came to Alabama in 1819 seeking to proselytize among Native Americans. They began a farmstead on what is now Mount Pleasant Ridge and named it after their missionary leader, John Graves Simms. The first school was built here in 1827; it later moved to Vestavia Hills. In 1865, when Montgomery seceded from Alabama, Pleasant Grove became an independent municipality under its own government system. In 1907–08, local businesses donated land for a new high school; it opened in 1909 and remained open until 1975. In 1915, two churches were built: Bethel Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church) and Christmastime Lutheran Church. The schools closed within a few years of each other due to budget cuts made by the then-new Birmingham mayor George Wallace during his campaign for governor of Alabama in 1938/39. A new high school was built adjacent to Christmastime LutheranChurch on East Hill Road just east of downtown from 1959 until 1978 when it burned down; this event is also considered the start of the current citywide blight problem that has plagued the community since then). Today, much of what once constituted part of Pleasant Grove are contained within Vestavia Hills proper while a small portion remains located around East Hill Road northeast of downtown which forms part of today's city limits
