In 1892, the Pleasant Grove City Council enacted a resolution that "the citizens of this city recommend to the legislature and executive department that a grant be made by the government to provide for the purchase of firearms for use in defense of the community." The first rifles were purchased from local gunsmiths. A rifle company was formed in 1895 and soon began manufacturing handguns. In 1907, the company merged with another handgun company and became known as National Firearms Manufacturing Company. This company manufactured many famous firearms including pistols, rifles, shotguns, machineguns and cannons. Pennington (1868-1937), industrialist Andrew Mellon (1865-1965), and Representative George Peeples (1920-2009). Over time much of the older downtown business district has been replaced by new development; however, some elements of oldtown remain such as the original courthouse and jail which are now used as residential units.

The first European to visit Pleasant Grove was James Robertson in 1785. The town was founded by General John Coffee in 1819 as a farmstead on a stand of cottonwoods near present-day Midtown Birmingham, Alabama. In 1827, Pleasant Grove became an outpost of the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1865, following the end of the Civil War, General Robert E. Lee ordered all Confederate forces to abandon their supplies and retreat into Tennessee until orders arrived to continue fighting. As supplies were running low, some Confederate troopers decided to take over plantations in central Alabama which had been abandoned by their owners due to fear for their safety from Union cavalry patrols and raiding parties led by General Sherman's army. Many residents decided not to leave their homes and continued living under Confederate rule until they were liberated by Union troops on April 9th, 1865. The townsfolk rebuilt their communities after being destroyed or damaged during Reconstruction and World War II. Today, Pleasant Grove remains a small unincorporated community with a population of around 100 people
Pleasant Grove was founded in 1817 by James and Nancy Pleasant. The town was named in honor of General Andrew Jackson, who was then president of the United States. The Pleasant Grove community was originally located on the east side of the Flint River. In 1835, the town moved to its present location on the west side of the river. Pleasant Grove had a population of about 375 people when it first formed in 1817. By 1830, the population had increased to about 800 people. Over time, Pleasant Grove has continued to grow and develop into a large community with a diverse culture and economy.
