This project will also add more than twenty acres (80 hectares) to Parsons Township and create approximately sixty jobs during construction phase alone. Today, there are scattered reminders that African Americans once populated this area – including two small churches on Smith Boulevard – but most people consider themselves white only or light blue only citizens because they were born here or have lived here their whole lives without any mixing with others outside their own racial groupings (e.g., white parents raised black children). In 1840 Pleasant Grove had a population of only 5 people. By 1860 it had grown to over 100 people and by 1880 it numbered over 230 people!
